DANGOTE SUGAR REFINERY EMPOWERS 50 ADAMAWA FEMALE FARMERS

 



The Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) Plc-Numan Operations in Adamawa State has empowered 50 female farmers with cash so as to boost their farming activities.


The beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme cut across Numan, Lamurde, Demsa, Shelleng and Guyuk Local Government Areas in the state.


The event, which was the first of its kind, attracted Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Four (4) First Class Chiefs, Stakeholders, the Management, Staff of the DSR as well as the beneficiaries of the scheme.


Speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, commended the President, Alh. Aliko Dangote and the mananagent of DSR particularly the Head of Corporate Affairs Dangote Sugar, Madam Ngoze Ngene, for their commitment.



Fintiri, urged the beneficiaries not to waste the money disbursed to them but use it to boost farming activities for food sufficiency not only for their families but the state in general.


Governor Fintiri who was represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Women Affairs, Hon. Neido Kofulto, said that anything that goes into the pockets of women, they incubate it and reproduce it to be bigger and better than when it was given.


In his remarks, the Chief Executive of DSR, Mr. Chinnaya Slyvian, thanked Governor Fintiri, the royal fathers and the beneficiaries for gracing the event, saying that the event was the first of its kind in the company.


Mr. Chinnaya, explained that 50 female farmers across the 5 LGAs have been considered for the empowerment, assuring that next time, the DSR will increase the empowerment scheme and number of beneficiaries. 


He stated that for the last 5 cropping seasons, the performance and yield of female farmers had been encouraging; hence, the need to encourage them in their agricultural activities and commended Madam Ngoze and the management team.


He told the gathering that the company needs them to enable it achieve its sugar master plan and expressed optimism that very soon, they will be the best in the country.


Mr. Chinnaya added that the management has been mandated by the President, Alh. Aliko Dangote, to increase up to 2,000 farmers, saying that currently, DSR has only 800 farmers.


Also speaking, the Financial Controller of DSR, Alh.  Ibrahim Tani, said that they are using the beneficiaries as litmust test, saying that if they succeed, they will expand and cover more women.


In their goodwill messages, the representatives of Hama Bachama, Homun Dr. Daniel Ismaila Shaga, Hama Batta, Homun Alhamdu G. Teneke, Amna Shelleng, Alh. Isa Dasong, Kwandi Nunguraya, Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda, applauded Dangote for adding value to lives of their subjects.


The Paramount Rulers advised the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the resources given to them for the purpose intended, and thanked the management of the DSR for the gesture.


In his welcome address, the Community Relations Manager, Mr. Daniel Andrew, pointed out that the programme will go along way in supporting the female farmers and encourage them so that they can feel the impact of their operations and congratulated them.


In her vote thanks, the Head of Corporate Affairs Dangote Sugar, Madam Ngoze Ngene, said that it is not going to end there as they are going to monitor their progress and render more support.


Madam Ngoze, appealed to them to consult their team of experts if they are having difficulties with their farms, assuring that the experts will be happy to help them.

She disclosed that they want more female out-growers and urged them to take advantage, saying it is always good when someone is working with benefits, and prayed that no matter little they do with the money, it will be bountiful harvest.
