MAN ARRESTED FOR CLIMBING HIGH TENSION POLE TO KILL SELF



The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 30 years old Abdullahi Muhammed, for attempted suicide.


Abdullahi, an indegine of Gashaka LGA, Taraba State, was on the 29th September, 2024 apprehended for attempting to commit suicide in Mayo-Belwa LGA.


A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the suspect had on the same date climbed a 33kv high tension pole along -Yola - Jalingo highway and threatened to kill himself.


"Responding to the report, the Commissioner of Police deployed operatives of the Command attached to Divisional police Headquarters, Mayo-Belwa to the scene of the incident. 


"Luckily, he was rescued and taken into protective custody. He is currently being investigated and will be charged to court for attempting to commit suicide", said SP Nguroje.


He assured that the Adamawa Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, including preventing acts of self-harm.


NIG @64: FINTIRI SALUTES CITIZENS, EXPRESSES HOPE FOR BETTER FUTURE



Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has congratulated Nigerians on the country's 64th independence anniversary, expressing hope for a better future.


Fintiri acknowledged the challenges facing Nigeria since its journey to nationhood, saying that despite these hurdles, Nigeria has made significant progress, particularly since its return to democracy 24 years ago.


Governor Fintiri in his message by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, emphasized the need for self-reflection and collective responsibility to address the country's weaknesses. 


He noted that success can only be achieved by accepting responsibility for actions and rejecting the victim's mentality.


“Some of these weaknesses are within our means to correct, but we will only succeed if we are brave and honest enough to accept responsibility for our actions and reject the convenient attitude of playing the victim and blaming others.” he further stated.


Fintiri reassured that his administration is committed to leaving no one behind and ensuring that every Adamawa citizen benefits from these efforts.

 

 "I commend you all for reaching this milestone, surviving pitfalls, and regaining dignity through democracy. Though 64 years is brief for a nation, we've had time to make significant changes.


"Regrettably, unpatriotic acts and injustice have undermined our progress. We must accept responsibility and reject victimhood.


"My administration will continue empowering Adamawa citizens through human capital development and infrastructure investments, boosting the economy, and improving living conditions", he stated.


On the current hardship in the land, Governor Fintiri said, “I see hope in Nigeria's future. Let's work together to provide good governance and democracy dividends.”


As Nigeria celebrates its 64th independence anniversary, Governor Fintiri said the new thinking of the Government serves as a reminder of the country's potential for growth and progress. “Let us unite in supporting the government's initiatives and work together towards a brighter future.”


The Governor commended the security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and order in the state, explaining that his administration's peace initiatives are aimed at promoting harmony and understanding among citizens.

JUST IN: MISSING GMMC STUDENT, REINHARD BONKE RETURNS HOME 5 DAYS AFTER



 A 16- year old SS II Student of the General Murtala Muhammed College (GMMC), Yola in Adamawa state, Reinhard Bonke, who was reported missing has returned home.


The boy was said to have returned home in the early hours of Sunday, after leaving their home about 5 days ago as confirmed by his father, Mr. Linus Luka.


It was reported on Saturday that Reinhard Bonke, who lives with his parents at Wauru Jebbe, Lakare B in Yola South LGA, left home on the 24th September, 2024 at about 7:30am but could not return back.


His father, Mr. Linus Luka, who confirmed the return to newsmen in Yola on Sunday, thanked God for making it possible for his son to return back home.


He equally appreciated the general public for their support and prayers which saw to the coming back home of his child.

16-YR OLD GMMC STUDENT DECLARED MISSING IN ADAMAWA

 


A 16- year old SS II Student of the General Murtala Muhammed College (GMMC), Yola in Adamawa state, Reinhard Bonke, has been declared missing.


Reinhard Bonke, who lives with his parents at Wauru Jebbe, Lakare B in Yola South LGA, was said to have left home on the 24th September, 2024 at about 7:30am but could not return back.


The SS II Student and a Capenta left home to their workshop in the same Lakare community but could not return back home and all efforts by parents and relations to locate him was not successful.


Mr. Linus Luka, who is the father of the 16- year, confirmed this development to newsmen, and appealed to the general public to notify the nearest police station if they encounter the missing student.



M/BELWA LGA CONDUCTS SANITATION, LAUDS EXERCISE

 




Inhabitants of Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, Adamawa State on Saturday, carried out monthly sanitation exercise so as to promote a clean and healthy environment. 


Aside promoting a clean and healthy environment, the residents observed the monthly sanitation exercise in order to reduce the risks of outbreaks of diseases in the Local Government Area.


The monthly sanitation exercise which was re-introduced by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, led administration is being observed across the 21 LGAs with a view to keeping a clean environment.


While carrying out the exercise, the residents shutdown their shops and other business centres. The security agencies including the police, military, civil defense, and vigilantes blocked major high ways to restrict the movement of vehicles.


Some residents who were sighted evacuating refuge in drainages more especially within Mayo Belwa town, hailed the re-introduction of the monthly sanitation exercise across the state.


According to them, sanitazing their surroundings is not for the benefit of Governor Fintiri who re-introduced the exercise but themselves, families and neighbours.

They commended Governor Fintiri as well as the Chairman of the LGC, Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi, for his support towards ensuring the success of the exercise.


Fielding questions from newsmen while monitoring the exercise, the Assistant Director General Services and Administration of the LGC, Comrade Mahmud Njabari, said that the communities in the LGA have given them maximum support and corporation.


Comrade Njabari, said that the Chairman of the council, Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi, had appointed them to supervise the exercise, saying that they went round the LGA and found out that the environment is clean.


He specifically thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who re-introduced the exercise meant to be observed at the end every month to ensure clean environment.


He stated that some of the residents have complied while others refused, saying that they had advised them to carry out the exercise to keep their environment clean for a healthy life.


On his part, the Acting Director Environment Mayo Belwa LGA, Amos Kaktumso Kibang Tola, applauded the exercise, saying that it will keep the environment clean and habitable.


He appealed to the Executive Chairman to provide more shovels, hoes, rain boots, cutlasses, hand gloves and wheelbarrows among other tools to assist them in carrying out the exercise, and called on the authorities to sustain it.


Also speaking, the Councillor representing Mbilla Ward, Hon. Bilyaminu Muhammed Sada, said that people have complied with the directive to come out and clean their environment, saying that sanitation is for the good of the people. 


He assured that the LGC under the leadership of Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi, will not relent in its effort to make the electorate obey government's directives for their own good.

FAKE POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED FOR EXTORTION IN ADAMAWA




The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 26th years old Shafiu Abdulkadir, for allegedly extorting the general public of their hard earned money.


Shafiu, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa, Yola North Local Government Area, was arrested on the 26th September, for impersonating a police officer and extorting members of the public. 


A statement by the spokesman of the police command,SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the suspect was found extorting tricyclists along Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and around Jimeta Modern Market.


"The arrest was a follow-up to the information regarding the activities of some vigilante men going around threatening and extorting Keke Napep riders.


"Upon his arrest, the suspect was found wearing police camouflage trouser, a black shirt with the inscription "Special Force," and boots", said Nguroje.


According to him, the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.


He said that the CP had urged members of the public to continue giving timely and useful information to the police as the Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and order.

POLICE RE- ARREST "SHILA" BOY 2 WEEKS AFTER CHIEF JUDGE FREED HIM FROM PRISON

Adamawa State Police Command has re- arrested a young man identified as Khalifa Modibbo for "Shila" gangsterism.


Khalifa, who hails from Hayin Gada in Girei LGA, was re-arrested barely 2 weeks after regaining his freedom from prison custody in Yola, Adamawa state.


He was among 100 awaiting trial inmates and convicts who were pardoned when the Jail Delivery Committee headed by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, visited the Correctional Centre for jail delivery.


Khalifa was arrested in the early 2024 and remanded in prison custody for the same offence of criminal conspiracy and theft where he had spent 6 months behind bars.


After regaining his freedom about 2 weeks ago, the 18 years old unrepentant "Shila" boy along side Ibrahim Garba, popurlarly known as Ibbi of Jabbore, Gindin Goruba, were nabbed for the offence of criminal conspiracy and theft.


During their operation on tricycle, Khalifa and Ibrahim picked their victim at Yolde Pate Junction in Yola South LGA to Yola town main market.


Khalifa who pretended to be a co- passenger used the opportunity and put his hands in the pocket of the man and removed the sum of N26,000.


On noticing that Khalifa had removed money from his pocket, the man asked Ibrahim who was riding the tricycle to proceed to Wuro Hausa police station where he will get down.


On their arrival at the Wuro Hausa Police Station, the man raised alarm which attracted the people and intercepted them and immediately handed them over to the police.


The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore, who confirmed the arrest, said that the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, had ordered for investigation and prosecution of the youngmen who already confessed to the crime.

SENATOR IYA ABBAS: A CHAMPION OF EMPOWERMENT

 




Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, has made a significant impact in his constituency through various empowerment programmes and developmental projects which had distinguished him from other politicians.

TRIBUNAL DISMISSES 9 PETITIONS AGAINST ADAMAWA LG CHAIRMEN



The Adamawa State Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal has dismissed 9 petitions instituted against the Executive Chairmen of LGCs in the state.


The Chairmen who had petitions against them dismissed include Hon. Mark Ishaya, Gombi, Hon. Idris Yahaya, Song, Hon. Adamu Dallatu, Girei, Hon. Jibril Ibrahim, Yola North.


Others include Hon. Musa Hassan, Mubi North, Hon. Abubakar Mustapha, Maiha, Hon.Shuaibu Babas, Fufore, Hon. Salihu Mohammed So'o, Jada and Hon. Kassa Dangi Shallom, Guyuk LGCs.


The petitions were instituted by the ADC Candidates as well as Labour Party in the case of Guyuk LGC, seeking the disqualification and voiding of the 13th July, 2024 conducted across the state.


The petitioners include Mohammed Jalo, Mustapha Yusuf, Abraham Innocent, Ja'afaru Umar, Khalled Yaro and Zacharia Adamu Umar ADC Candidates for Gombi, Song, Girei, Maiha, Mubi North and Jada LGAs.


Others are; Muhammed Lawan Bello and Shehu Inuwa, both ADC Chairmanship Candidates for Fufore and Yola North LGAs respectively, and Hon. Gamaliel Gandume of the Labour Party who contested the candidacy of Hon. Barr. Kassa Dangi Shallom.


Delivering judgement on Friday, the Chairman of the 3-member tribunal, Hon. Daniel John, said that the tribunal had considered and analysed the petitions, grounds and evidence adduced before it.


Hon. Daniel, declared that the petitions lack merit and that the petitioners have failed woefully in convincing the tribunal that the exercise was not in compliance with the provisions of the law and therefore dismissed it.

SENATOR ADAMAWA CENTRAL CONDOLES FINTIRI'S ADVISER OVER MOTHER'S DEMISE



Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial district, Aminu Iya Abbas, has commiserated with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Abdulrahman Bobboi over the death of his mother, Hajiya Fadimatu Abubakar (Hajja Salti).


Senator Iya Abbas described Hajja Salti's death as “a great loss not only to Abdulrahman Bobboi, and other family members but the State and Nigeria in general.


He described the departed as “a quintessential mother and community leader who devoted her lifetime to the service of God and humanity.’’


Abbas, paid glowing tributes to the deceased, saying she was a good mother, and urged the first family to take solace in the fact that the late matriarch lived to witness the enormous successes achieved by her son. 


“On behalf of the people of Adamawa central senatorial district I commiserate with Abdulrahman Bobboi on the painful loss of his beloved mother,” he said.


He called on the bereaved family to uphold the cherished ideals of community service, kindness and generosity associated with the matriarch and prayed Almighty Allah to repose her soul, and give the family, the people Gombi local government and the State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

RWANDA 2024: ADDRESS THE YEARNINGS OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS, ADHA SPEAKER URGES MEMBERS




Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley has urged lawmakers in the state to use the knowledge they have acquired during their week-long study visit in Rwanda for the overall development of Adamawa State. 


Bathiya made the call while presenting certificates to the lawmakers shortly after rounding up a summit for MPs on Use of ICT, Policy Formulation and Inclusive Governance in Kigali, Rwanda. 


The Speaker reminded the Adamawa lawmakers that their 25 constituencies expect to see them meet their yearning and aspirations. 


He appreciated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for maintaining the cordial working relationship with the members, insisting that the summit will go a long way in boosting their legislative practice and procedures.


Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley further applauded Governor Fintiri led administration for effective partnership and support to the 8th assembly, and expressed optimism that the partnership will continue to exist throughout their tenure for the benefit of their people and for the overall development of Adamawa State.


Some of the lawmakers while speaking separately saluted the speaker for always striving assiduously to prepare his colleagues for competency, people oriented legislature as well as good governance in Adamawa State.

GOMBI LGC BOSS WINS AS TRIBUNAL DISMISSES PETITION AGAINST HIM



The Adamawa State Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday, dismissed the petition instituted against the Executive Chairman Gombi LGC, Hon. Mark Ishaya.


The petition was filed by the Candidate of the ADC in the 13th July, LGCs, Mohammed Jalo, challenging the election which brought Hon. Mark to power.


In his petition, Hon. Mohammed told the tribunal that the election of Hon. Mark Ishaya, was not in compliance with the law, alleging that the exercise was marred by irregularities.


He prayed the tribunal to nullify the exercise as according to him, the election was null and void since it was not carried out in substantial compliance with the provisions of the law.


Delivering his judgement, the Chairman of the 3-member tribunal, Hon. Daniel John, said that the tribunal had considered and analysed the entire petition, grounds and evidence adduced before him.


Hon. Daniel, declared that the petition lacks merit and that the petitioners have failed woefully in convincing the tribunal that the election was not in compliance with the provisions of the law.


He therefore dismissed the petition in its entirety, saying that all the parties should bear their cost.

GOV FINTIRI MOURNS MOTHER OF SPECIAL ADVISER

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has commiserated with the family of Abdulrahaman Bobboi, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on political matters over the death of his mother late Hajiya Fadimatu Abubakar.


The deceased popularly known as (Hajja Salti) died in Gombi after a brief illness.


The governor, represented by his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, led high powered government representatives to the family residence of the sexagenerian in Gombi on sympathy visit.


Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chief of Staff to Government House Yola,  Dr Edgar Amos, described the death of the deceased as shocking, sad and hard to come to terms with.


He said, “It is with deep shock that government and people of Adamawa, received the sad news of the loss of our beloved mother, grandmother".


“It is indeed a very sad, shocking and hard to come to terms with at this moment.


The Chief of Staff prayed Allah to forgive the deceased, grant her mercy and make Jannatul Firdaus be her final abode.


Responding on behalf of the mourners, and family members, the District Head of Gombi, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Sarki Fada, appreciated government concern for identifying with the families and people of Gombi local government, over the demise of the deceased


He eulogized  the deceased as mother to all and would be  remembered for her motherly role to the society.


The monarch, lauded Governor  Fintiri on the laudable developmental strides that Adamawa state is witnessing under his administration.


The deceased aged 87 years is survived by six children, 81 grand and great grand children

FORGERY: PETITION AGAINST GUYUK LGC CHAIR DISMISSED



Petition instituted against the Chairman of Guyuk Local Government Council, Hon. Barr. Kassa Dangi Shallom, has been dismissed.


The Adamawa State Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday, dismissed the petition for lacking in merit, saying that the petition has woefully and dismissed same.


The Chairman of the 3-member tribunal, Hon. Daniel John, dismissed the petition while delivering judgement and awarded the sum of N300,000 in favour of the respondents against the petitioners. 


The Chairmanship Candidate of the Labour Party for Guyuk LGC in the, Hon. Gandume Gamaliel, of the Labour Party instituted the petition against the Chairman.


Hon. Gandume, prayed the LG Election Petitions Tribunal to disqualify Hon. Barr. Kassa Dangi Shallom, for contesting the 13th July, 2024 election with forged certificate..


He alleged that Hon. Kassa, had submitted a forged certificate of the West African Examination Council with examination number 10502120, to the screening committee which he had used in seeking for election.

COURT DISCHARGES REGISTRAR LEGAL STUDIES AFTER PAYING N1M TO FEMALE LECTURER FOR ASSAULT




The Chief Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State on Thursday, discharged the Acting Registrar College for Legal Studies, Yola, Musa Chiroma, after paying N1million as damages to a Female Lecturer, Barr. Fadimatu Musa (Mrs.).


Aside the payment of N1million and N80,000 as cost of prosecution, the Acting Registrar had tendered a written apology and undertaken not to victimise the nominal complainant nor assault her again.


These were the grounds which the court presided by Chief Magistrate Uwani Muhammed Danladi, considered in its judgement and discharged the defendant after striking out the matter.

Chiroma was arraigned before the court on the 13th May, 2024, for the offences of assault, criminal force to deter public servant from discharging her lawful duty and voluntary causing of hurt contrary to sections 244 and 219 of the penal law 2018.


According to the First Information Report, Chiroma had on the 15th April, 2024 assaulted the Assistant Chief Lecturer who is also the Chairman Task Force Committee for the Enforcement of Payment of School Fees in the institution.



He beat up the Fadimatu, a house wife for preventing a particular student from writing examination due to his failure to pay his mandatory fees to enable him write the examination.


During the resumed court's proceedings, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen appeared for the prosecution while S. N. Agaecheta for the defendant.


Likewise, the Head of Public Sector Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association Women Forum who is also the immediate past State Lead of the forum, Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji Esq, was in court to ensure that justice is done in the matter.

COURT DISCHARGES REGISTRAR LEGAL STUDIES AFTER PAYING N1M TO FEMALE LECTURER FOR ASSAULT




The Chief Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State on Thursday, discharged the Acting Registrar College for Legal Studies, Yola, Musa Chiroma, after paying N1million as damages to a Female Lecturer, Barr. Fadimatu Musa (Mrs.).


Aside the payment of N1million and N80,000 as cost of prosecution, the Acting Registrar had tendered a written apology and undertaken not to victimise the nominal complainant nor assault her again.


These were the grounds which the court presided by Chief Magistrate Uwani Muhammed Danladi, considered in its judgement and discharged the defendant after striking out the matter.


Chiroma was arraigned before the court on the 13th May, 2024, for the offences of assault, criminal force to deter public servant from discharging her lawful duty and voluntary causing of hurt contrary to sections 244 and 219 of the penal law 2018.


According to the First Information Report, Chiroma had on the 15th April, 2024 assaulted the Assistant Chief Lecturer who is also the Chairman Task Force Committee for the Enforcement of Payment of School Fees in the institution.


He beat up the Fadimatu, a house wife for preventing a particular student from writing examination due to his failure to pay his mandatory fees to enable him write the examination.


During the resumed court's proceedings, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen appeared for the prosecution while S. N. Agaecheta for the defendant.


Likewise, the Head of Public Sector Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association Women Forum who is also the immediate past State Lead of the forum, Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji Esq, was in court to ensure that justice is done in the matter.

WITCHCRAFT: FINTIRI CONDEMNS KILLING OF 3 PERSONS



Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has implored the people for calm, following recent crisis linked to witchcraft, leading to the death of three persons.


The incident led to the burning of many houses in Gyakan, Suwa and Shubo villages of Lamurde Local Government Area of the state


Fintiri, who frowned at the act during his visit to the affected communities on Wednesday, warned that government would not tolerate any form of breakdown of law and order.


Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the Governor, appealed to youths and traditional rulers to curb the crisis from escalation by not taking law into their hands.


Prof. Farauta noted that adequate security have been deployed to the affected communities to restore law and order in the area.


The Deputy Governor also directed patients with severe injuries be referred to Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital Yola for medical attention.


She cautioned, “What you didn’t get when you are living peacefully, you might not have it, when fighting.

ADAMAWA CJ ROUNDS UP PRISON VISIT, FRESS 100 INMATES, ADMITS 54 TO BAIL




Jail Delivery Committee headed by the Chief Judge Adamawa State, Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, has rounded up prison decongestion at 3 Correctional centres in Yola, Adamawa state.


The committee visited Yolde Pate known as Yola New, Yola Old and Jimeta Correctional Centers and discharged no fewer than 100 inmates awaiting trial and convicts serving various prison term.


The JDC granted bail to 54 inmates both awaiting trial convicts as well as reviewed the sentences and convicted several others.


During the visit, several inmates awaiting trial were summarily tried and convicted after they had pleaded guilty to the offences mostly theft of which they accused. Some of them were sentenced to community service at police stations and health centres.


Addressing the beneficiaries shortly after the exercise, the Chief Judge, said that the committee has tempered justice with mercy and urged them to also do justice to the committee.


She advised them to be good citizens whenever they get back to the society and engage in legal businesses to earn a living and warned them not to engage in crime again.


She told them that the court or committee will not be lenient to anyone re-arrested for any crime, urging them to justice to the committee since the committee has done justice to them.

SENATOR IYA ABBAS MOURNS HONG LGA VILLAGE HEAD

 




The Senator Representing Adamawa central senatorial district Aminu Iya Abbas, has expressed shock over the death of Village Head of Daksiri, Pella District in Hong LGA of Adamawa State, Ada Yerima Halilu Daksiri.


The Village Head, Ada Yerima died in the early hours of Monday.


Iya Abbas, in a condolence message through his Yola Media Office on behalf of people of Adamawa central senatorial district, described the death of Ada Yerima Halilu Daksiri as a great loss not only to his community, but the entire Hong local government area and the state at large. 


The Senator who is the (Iya Adamawa) and Chairman Committee on Innovation Science and Technology, also consoled with the district head of Pella Alhaji Saleh Mamman Daksiri over the demise of his uncle the village head of Daksiri Ada Yerima. 


Senator Abbas, said that the Late Ada Yerima who is the oldest man in Pella town, will be remembered for his fatherly advise and counseling to anyone that came in contact with him, particularly his immediate relations.


The late village head of Daksiri is survived by many children, grand and great grandchildren as well as siblings.

TRIAL BY ORDEAL: FEMALE NATIVE DOCTOR KILLS 3 ACCUSED OF WITCHCRAFT IN ADAMAWA





The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 30 years old female native doctor, Salestina Bala, for allegedly killing 3 persons accused of witchcraft in Lamurde LGA.


Salestina, a resident of Kwa village in Lamurde LGA, allegedly connived with others and tortured their victims identified as Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu whom they had accused of witchcraft leading to their death.


A release by the Spokesman of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, explained that the suspect was arrested on the 14th September, 2024 by the operatives of the command attached to Tigno Divisional headquarters.


SP Nguroje, said that the incident was earlier reported to the police by Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara, saying that the woman conspired with others, tortured and killed 3 during trial by ordeal.

SENATOR REV AMOS YOHANNA EMPOWERS 580 WOMEN, YOUTH




Hundreds of electorate in Adamawa Northern Senatorial District on Saturday, showered encomiums on the Senator representing the zone, Rev. Amos Yohanna Kumai, as he embarked on another phase of the distribution of assorted empowerment items.


Cross section of the constituents showered praises on their illustrious son for once more providing dividends of a good representation aimed at making life more meaningful to hundreds of them, urging him to continue with giant stride.


Pushing forth in his dedication and commitment to fulfilling his electioneering campaign promises once more, Sanator Amos, put smiles in the faces of 580 electorate and their families by distributing assorted empowerment items including water pumps, grinding and milling machines, poultry chicks and feeds.



Speaking at the epock-making event held at the Multi-purpose hall, Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Senator Rev. Amos Yohanna Kumai, appealed to the beneficiaries not to sell the items, and promised to roll out more empowerment programmes for the good people of his constituency.

BACHAMA KINGDOM PLEDGES SUPPORT AS YEDC SEEKS END TO POWER THEFT, VANDALISM




The Bachama Traditional Council in Adamawa State has pledged full support to Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), emphasizing the critical role of electricity in sustaining livelihoods as well as businesses. 


Equally, the council pledged to back the company on power asset protection, and appealed for greater community engagement to enable the company continue in rendering services to the public.


The council made this known during a stakeholder sensitization event in Numan LGA, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of safe guarding power assets and improving electricity supply. 


This is contained in a statement by the YEDC Communication Officer, Blessing Tunoh, and made available to newsmen in Yola, Adamawa state.


The statement said that the council which was represented by the District Heads under the Bachama kingdom, reaffirmed their commitment towards safeguarding power infrastructure by creating local security mechanisms to prevent vandalism and other forms of asset damage. 


She disclosed that the YEDC officials at the event engaged with the community leaders on issues ranging from the company’s services, including announcing the 24-hour customer service call centre, complaint redress mechanisms, feeder sensitisation and the banding system. 


"The council was happy about the meeting and called for more stakeholder engagement opportunities to enable customers better understand and be involved in combatting power theft, vandalism and assaults on YEDC personnel—offences which carry strict legal implications, especially under the new Electricity Act.


"YEDC urges customers to increase their responses regarding bill payment to mitigate financial losses for the company which would impede replacing faulty equipment to improve supplies to homes and businesses within the council", said Blessing Tunoh.


She stated that the customers were further encouraged to adopt the company’s e-payment platforms, such as the BuyPower app or over-the-counter payments at YEDC offices; secure and efficient ways to settle their bills, reducing the risks associated with cash transactions.


She stated that in the absence of the Hama Bachama Dr. Daniel Shaga Ismail, the event was chaired by his Deputy, Kpana Linus Anonoma with District heads and the Numan Council Chairman, Hon. Innocent Koto in attendance.

RELIEF AS SEN IYA ABBAS PARTNERS CHINISE ELECTRIC VEHICLES' FACTORIES



Reprieve may soon come to the inhabitants of Adamawa Central Senatorial District as Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, who represents the zone has entered into parnership with Chinise electric motorcycles, tricycles and carry go factories.


Senator Iya Abbas, inspected one of the Chinese leading production and assembly factories for electric motorcycles, tricycles, and carry go tricycles. 



The Senator who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology is currently on an official working visit to the Peoples' Republic of China.


He used the opportunity and inspected the factories' production lines and discussed potential collaborations for the benefit of the people of Adamawa central, Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole. 


He said, the visit is part of his effort towards addressing the impact of fuel subsidy, and to fulfill his electoral promises. 


Following the inspection, Senator Abbas appreciated the factories team leads for the warm reception accorded to him, highlighting mutual respect and shared developmental goals

TRANSFORMER VANDAL ELECTROCUTED IN YOBE

 


An unidentified man has been electrocuted while attempting to vandslise a transformer substation situated at Commissioners' Quarters 1, in Damaturu, Yobe State.


The deceased was evacuated by the Damaturu police patrol team “Operation Haba Maza” and taken to the mortuary at the Damaturu Teaching Hospital after which his relatives identified and claimed the corpse.


A statement by the Communication Officer, Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), Blessing Tunoh, confirmed the incident, saying that upon receiving the report, the Regional Manager and the Operation and Maintenance Officer of YEDC visited the scene.


The Communication Officer said that investigations revealed that the deceased had attempted to use his shirt to shield himself while tampering with an exposed live wire during the illegal act. 


Blessing said that unfortunately, the deceased came in contact with the live cable leading to his instant electrocution, saying that the transformer was not damaged, and no further vandalism was reported.


"According to the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, police investigations revealed that the suspect attempted to steal power assets at about 1:00 a.m. or thereabout during a power outage but was electrocuted when power was suddenly restored", she stated.


She further explained that his lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of the day by residents on their way to the mosque for morning prayers, pointing out that the incident was promptly reported to the Maisandari ‘B’ Division of the Yobe State Police Command which deployed personnel to evacuate the body.


She further stated that the police had promised to continue to support the YEDC in protecting their installations and prosecuting arrested vandals who damage power infrastructure and disrupt services.

SENATOR ADAMAWA NORTH DONATES N3MILLION, RELIEF MATERIALS TO SHUWA FLOOD VICTIMS



As part of his commitment towards ameliorating the hardship faced by the victims of the recent flood disaster in Madagali and Michika LGAs, the Senator representing Adamawa Northern Senatorial District, Rev. Amos Yohanna Kumai, on Friday, donated the sum of N3million to victims of the flooding in Shuwa, Madagali LGA.


Aside the N3million cash donation to the victims in Shuwa community, the Senator equally presented  relief materials worth millions while commiserating with the victims of the natural disaster.


According to the Senator, the relief materials as well as the cash will be distributed to those affected by the devastating flood in the community as part of his effort to bringing succur to them.



Speaking at the palace of the District Head of Shuwa, Senator Rev. Amos, extended his deepest condolences to those who had lost their loved ones to the flood as well as the displaced persons, saying that he was far away in China on National assignment when the ugly incident happened. 


Senator Rev. Amos, informed the victims that as their representative, his office is in contact with relevant authorities such as NEMA and NEDC to find a realistic way of assisting them, assuring that he is focused in providing effective represetation to his electorate in the zone.


Presenting the cash gifts and relief materials to communities hit by the flood, which resulted in the lost of their means of livelihood, Senator Rev. Amos, expressed deep concern on their plight, assuring them of his continued support.


In addition to Senator Rev. Amos, cash donation to the flood victims, a member of his entourage, Dr. Peter Oaya, had also made a cash donation of Five Hundred Thousand naira (N500,000) to the victims.


Responding on behalf of the victims in the community, the District Head, commended Senator Yohanna's efforts towards the timely assistance to the affected, assuring that the relief materials will be shared to the victims. 


Cross section of victims appreciated the Senator for the humanitarian gesture, saying that the money and other relief materials will go along way in cushioning the effect of hardship faced by the victims.


They however assured him of their support and cooperation to enable him continue in providing more fruitful stewardship not only to his electorate but Adamawa state and the nation at large, and prayed God to grant him sound health and wisdom for more people oriented representation. 

ADAMAWA CP DECORATES 12 NEWLY PROMOTED OFFICERS



The Commissioner of Police Adamawa State, Dankombo Morris, on Friday, decorated 12 newly promoted Police Officers.


The event which took place at the Police Officers Mess, Jimeta, was attended by Ahmed Lawan, the Senior Special Assistant on Peace and Security to the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as well as many other stakeholders.


Decorating the officers, the CP congratulated them for their well-deserved elevation, and charged them to deploy their intellect and demonstrate sound professional judgement in all their decisions at all times.


He noted that since his assumption office the Community Policing Strategies and strategic management approach is addressing current and emerging security threats in the state.


In his remarks, the SSA to Fintiri congratulated the officers and ch​arged them to see the promotion as a call for improved service to the State. 


He assured of the government’s commitment to continue supporting the command in ongoing fight against "Shila"Gangsterism.

2 SHILA BOYS THREATEN TO SLAUGHTER POLICE OFFICER IN ADAMAWA



Two suspected "Shila" boys have been arrested by the men of the Adamawa State Police Command during failed attempt to snatch a mobile phone belonging to a police officer.


The hoodlums had threatened to kill the police officer who unknowingly boarded their tricycle from the Adamawa Unity Bridge to former APC Secretary in Nasarawo Jimeta Yola.


The suspects include Hamza Ibrahim, 19 years old, Gimba road, Auwal Kolo, 19 years old, Rumde and Mubarak Sadiq, the owner of the tricycle which they used in carrying out their operations.


Hamza and Kolo, picked their victim and instead of conveying him to the said destination, they suddenly diverted and headed to Ribadu Square where they threatened to go and kill him. 


While on their way to Ribadu Square instead of APC Secretariat, Kolo put his hand into the pocket of the police officer, removed his handset and threatened to kill him.


Kolo engaged the officer in a fight in the moving tricycle and the police officer who was left with no alternative, hit Hamza who was riding and all of them fell on the ground leading to their arrest.


The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the arrest, assuring that the suspects who have since confessed to the crime will be charged to court for prosecution.


FAWE Nigeria Marks Intl Day to Protect Education from Attack 2024



As the world commemorates 2024, International Day to Protect Education from Attack, the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Nigeria has organised a Two (2) Days Workshop aimed at marking the day in Yola, Adamawa State Capital.


The event was organised by Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Nigeria with support from Plan International EU-INTPA Project on "Strengthening Civil Society to Enhance Education for all in Northern Nigeria".


It was organised to commemorate the day by brainstorming on the Safe School Declaration(SSD) and  National Policy on school safety and violence-free school and role of stakeholders giving the spate of attacks on children and schools in the Northeast, Northwest and some parts of the state.


It availed the participants the opportunity to extensively deliberate on the Nigeria policy on school safety and violence free schools and had a better understanding on the policy, roles of relevant stakeholders towards ensuring safe schools.



The workshop, which was held at Mamma Chare Hotel in Yola, Adamawa State, attracted stakeholders including the Ministries of Education and Human Capital Development, Women and Social Development and State Board on Mass Education.


Others include Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, representatives of the Nigeria Army, Police, Department of the State Security, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) among others.


Cross section of participants observed with dismay how different patterns of violence against schools and learners in Nigeria is creating a great a challenge in inculcating values, respect and tolerance for individual difference, non-discrimination, conflict resolution, communication and other foundational life skills in learners.

 

Addressing the participants, the Education Officer of FAWE, Ibrahim Bello, said that the International Day to Protect Education  from Attack is a global event that is marked on the 9th September.


He said that it is a common knowledge that over the years education has come under serious attacks globally, and especially in some parts of Nigeria from armed bandits, insurgents and natural disasters.


According to him, since 2013 there about 10,000 attacks against schools globally and that 500 out of these attacks were documented in South Sudan / Yemen since 2017, adding that since year 2000 till date almost 35,000 children have died as a result of attacks in schools around the world.




He expressed optimism that at the end of the activity the participants will have a better understanding of the policy, roles of different stakeholders towards the implemention of the policy, build synergy across various sectors towards harmonious implementation of the policy.


During presentations shortly after a group work session, the representatives of the security, identified lack of funding, logistics and lack of collaboration and corporation from the citizens and how people or communities harbour or shield criminals, and advocated for better funding, logistics support and intelligent gathering among others.


On their part, the line MDAs and Civil Society Organisations, said that there should be partnership among the stakeholders, creation of awareness, and increase in budgetary allocation, appointment of focal person for schools among other actions points.

BORNO FLOODING: FINTIRI DONATES N50MILLION VICTIMS, 6 SPEEDBOATS



Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has donated N50 million as well as 6 speedboats to the Borno State Government to support victims of the recent flooding in the state.


During a visit to Maiduguri, Governor Fintiri presented the the money and boats to Governor, Babagana Zulum, appealed for more support for the affected communities.

He expressed regret over the loss of lives and property, urging the federal government to take necessary action to address the situation.

He expressed regret over the loss of lives and property, urging the federal government to take necessary action to address the situation.


Notably, Governor Fintiri, alongside his Borno State counterpart, Governor Babagana Zulum, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, took a boat ride to assess the situation and sympathize with displaced persons in the state.


Governor Fintiri was accompanied by Secretary to the State Government Awwal Tukur, members of the State Executive Council, and friends.

ADAMAWA POLICE ARREST 5 FOR COPPER WIRES, GAS CYLINDER THEFT



In its effort towards curtailing crime and criminality in and around Adamawa state, the operatives of the State Police Command have arrested 5 for theft.


Those arrested include Abdulmunini Muhammad,18, Wauru Jabbe, Ibrahim Ahmed, 18, Mubarak Abubakar, 29, Malamre,Mahmud Ibrahim, 18, Malamre, Isaac Jonsh, 17, Malamre.


The first suspect, Abdulmuni, broke into the house around their community and stole Gas Cylinder.


On his part, Ibrahim, carted away with copper wire at a filling station, saying that they usually sell the copper wires to scavengers after burning it.


While Mubarak along side Mahmud, Isaac, invaded a filling station, broke into ceiling and stole copper wires with an intention of selling it to scavengers.


Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the accused were apprehended by the operatives.


SP Nguroje, said that Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, had ordered that the suspects be charged to court for prosecution.
