FAWE, PLAN INTL UNVEIL TRAINING MANUALS ON GRESP, "TSANGAYA" EDUCATION



The Forum for African Wmen Educationalists (FAWE) Nigeria and Plan International on Monday, unveiled 3 different training Manuals on Gender Responsive Education Sector Planning as well as on "Tsangaya" education.


The manuals include Gender Responsive Education Sector Planning (GRESP) Facilitator's Manual, Facilitator's Manual on "Tsangaya" education and Directory for Women Right Youth-Led Disability Grassroots Associations in Adamawa state.


The documents are the brain child of the project titled" Strengthening Civil Society Organisations to Enhance Education for All in Northern Nigeria'.


Interestingly, the documents were developed following a rigorous research and desk review process which involved various stakeholders and expected to serve as a guide for training actors both in government and Civil Society Organisations.


More importantly, the documents are expected to have a multiplier effect, serve as a guide for further training both at organisation and at the grassroots level, support knowledge sharing, retention and management.


The Directory for Women's Right in particular will also serve as a useful guide for ensuring inclusion of women, youth and persons with disabilities in decision making process as relates to education sector in Adamawa state.


In his remarks at the event held in Yola, Adamawa State Capital, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Good Governance, Dr. Adamu Mallam Babikkoi, commended the organisers of what he described unique event.


Dr. Babikkoi, said that invaluable resources are a testament to the collective efforts of the Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) Nigeria, Plan International Nigeria and the numerous stakeholders who had contributed to their development.


"The Tsangaya system of education, while deeply rooted in Islamic tradition, has faced significant challenges especially in recent years. The need for reform is undeniable, and the development of the ToT manuals on Tsangaya and GRESP are no doubt crucial steps towards achieving a more inclusive, equitable, and effective Tsangayn education", he stated.


He said that the govemnest agencies have a crucial role to play in providing funding, policy support, and oversight and that they can also ensure that "Tsangaya" schools are integrated into the formal education system and comply with relevant regulations.


He advocated the need to strengthen partnerships between CSOs, government agencies, religious leaders, and the private sector to create a unified front for Tsangaya education reform.


He used the opportunity and commended the CSOs for their vital role in driving transformative change in education, saying that they bring unique perspectives, expertise, and grassroots connections that can complement government efforts.


Dr. Adamu Mallam Babikkoi, said that in the context of Tsangaya education reform, they believe in the capacity of the CSOs to advocate for policy change, provide technical assistance, build community awareness, empower marginalized groups and moniter and evaluate progress.


In her keynote address, the Chairperson FAWE Adamawa State, Hadiza Dauda, told the gathering that the manuals were designed to serve as a holistic road map or guide to the civil actors.


On her part, the Master Trainer of FAWE, Aisha Yahaya, said that the GRESP Manual Plan International Nigeria is implementing the EU-INTPA Project tagged "Strengthening Civil Society Capacity to Enhance Education for All in Northern Nigeria EU-INTPA Project a 2 year initiative in Sokoto and Adamawa states.


According to her, Plan International Nigeria Team and Implementing partners, Forum for African Women Educationists (FAWE) and Save the Child Iniative in collaboration with CSECAFA contextualised the manual. 


She said that the goal is to support the continuous learning of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the relevant stakeholders in education to have necessary information to engage state actors in developing and implementing their respective education sector plan.


She said that the manual with 14 modules provide an indepth guidance for facilitating a five day gender responsive education planning 4 include step by step presentation and how that facilitators can follow to replicate or build.


She said that the introduction of the modules hightlight the purpose of history of the GRESP workshop, overview of the agenda and approach of GRESP, an overview of the 14 session which show the five days frame work. 


She explained that the 14 modules include modules introducing participants, understanding education sector plan and its gender implication, the language of gender equality, gender analysis through why and why analysis.


Several stakeholders who spoke at the event applauded FAWE and Plan International for unveiling the manuals, saying that the documents will go along in ensuring inclusiveness and promoting the standard of education in the society.


In their closing remarks, the Secretary FAWE Adamawa State, Mrs Helen Mathias, and Adamini Emmanuel, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan International thanked the participants for honouring their invitation.


They said that the importance of education cannot be over-emphasized, saying that education brings progress, peace and development and urged the participants to make use of the manuals to achieve the set objectives.
