A man simply identified as Isa Usman, allegedly caught with 24 sim cards of different networks among others has been remanded in prison custody.
The 21 year old man was remanded by the Chief Magistrate Court I in Adamawa State after he was arraigned before it on 4 count charges of which he pleaded guilty.
He was arraigned for resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful arrest or escape, having possession of things reasonably suspected to be stolen, unlawful possession of weapons, illicit or banned substances.
Isa who lives at Sabon Gari, Sangere Futy in Girei Local Government Area, Adamawa State admitted committing the offences contrary to sections 138, 311, 399 and 271 of the Penal Code Law 2018.
He was apprehended in possession of 24 sim cards of various networks, 2 scissors, 1 Chicha pot, and indian hemp on the 25th June, 2022.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector S. S Nicholas, informed the Court that Isa was arrested following a reliable information received by the police on series of criminal activities around Sangere Futy.
The Defendant along side 3 others who were arrested and remanded for the same offences were said to have specialised in entering peoples' houses by night and stealing phones, laptops and other valuables.
According to the Prosecutor, the police raided their hideout on the 1st June, 2022 by 3:00am and arrested Suleiman Isa, Saidu Lawan and Aliyu Ibrahim.
During the raid, Isa Usman, who managed and escaped through the ceiling, was arrested by the police; hence, his arraignment.
It was after his plea that the Prosecutor, applied that he should be remanded to enable him call a witness for the purpose of corroboration.
The presiding Judge, Chief Magistrate Mohammed Buba granted the application and subsequently adjourned the matter to the 18th July, 2022 for corroboration and summary trial.
