MAN STEALS MOSQUE GENERATOR, AMPLIFIER, SELLS N6, 000, LAVISHES IT ON INDIAN HEMP




A man simply identified as Umar Sani, has been remanded in prison custody for stealing the sum of N48, 000, a generator and amplifier belonging to a mosque in Yola, Adamawa State capital.


Umar was remanded by the Jimeta Area Court II presided by Hon. Muhammad Alamin Diya Lamurde, and adjourned the matter to the 2nd August, 2022 for corroboration and summary trial.


The court's order followed the defendant's guilt plea when arraigned before it by the Prosecutor, Cpl Ismail Mohammed of Jambutu Division.


The defendant, resident of Rumde Baru in Yola South Local Government Area, confessed that himself and the son of their Ward of Head stormed Rumde Baru mosque on Sunday by 12:00, when nobody was in the mosque.


He narrated that they carted away the items (generator,  amplifier and other electrical appliances) and sold each at the sum N6,000 and lavished the proceeds on indian hemp with friends.


He told NEWS PLATFORM in Hausa language thus" Oga, mun kashe kudin kwata kwata a kan Wiwi da shaye shaye". Meaning that "We expended the entire proceeds on Indian hemp".


The Prosecutor, Cpl Ismail, informed Hon. Alamin Lamurde that the defendant was apprehended by the operatives attached to Jambutu Division.


It was after the plea of the defendant that the court ordered for his remand and subsequently adjourned the matter for summary trial as applied by the Prosecutor.
