8TH ADHA VOWS TO REVAMP MINISTRY OF MINERAL RESOURCES TO BOOST IGR



The 8th Adamawa State House of Assembly has vowed to revamp the Ministry of Mineral Resources in order to boost internally generated revenue for the services of the state.


The Deputy Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammed Buba Jijiwa, made the promise during familiarisation visit on the ministry by the House Standing Committee on Mineral Resources.


Jijiwa who is the member representing Jada/Mbulo constituency, said that the 8th assembly led by Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley is poised to overhaul the ministry to work towards enhancing revenues.


The legislator who is the member of the committee explained that some LGAs such as Guyuk, Toungo and Mubi among others have untapped mineral resources, insisting that if such resources are harnessed, it will serve as a mainstay of the state.


He noted that if the ministry is accorded topmost priority by the government, it will be better than agriculture, and assured that the assembly is ready to work on a blue print presented to the legislature.


Earlier, in his remarks, the Chairman of the committee and the member representing Mubi North constituency, Hon. Paul Samuel, disclosed that his committee is willing explore avenues to address myriad of challenges affecting the ministry.


Hon. Paul assured that his committee is craving for a harmonious working relationship with the ministry in order to rejuvenate it, and that the committee will not be able to achieve it without their support and co-operation.


He informed them that the committee is determined to work towards meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate, and stressed the need to think out of box in order to succeed.


In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Aliyu Abubakar Jada, appreciated the committee for the visit, assuring that the ministry is ready to partner with the committee.


Aliyu Abubakar told the committee that the ministry has been facing problems for a very long time, and expressed optimism that with the composition of the committee, the situation will change for better.
