The newly constituted House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has undertaken a familiarisation visit on the Ministries, Departments and Agencies under it.
The Committee has the member representing Toungo constituency, Hon. Kefas Calvin as its Chairman and Hon. Emmanuel Kefas (Song), Hon. Geoffrey Bulus (Leko/Koma), Rt. Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo(Numan), Hon. Adun Hyellapari John(Uba/Gaya) and Hon. Bulus Kantomon Napthali as members, while Mrs Grace Kurkuwa the Secretary.
Some of the MDAs visited by the committee today include: Ministries for LG Affairs and that of the Chieftaincy Affairs, Local Government Service Commission and Local Government Staff Pension Board.
Speaking while leading members of the committee during the visit at the Ministry for LG and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. kefas Calvin, explained that the committee was at the ministry to familiarise itself with the ministry.
"This visit is just for us to come and know each other. We are supposed to be free with each other, discuss and know ourselves. We will like to know more about your activities." Hon. Kefas
Speaking while at the Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Kefas Calvin, said that the visit of the committee was to acquaint itself with the commission's activities.
The lawmaker urged the leadership of the commission to brief the committee on the challenges confronting the commission to enable the committee and by extension the assembly to intervene.
While at the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Kefas Calvin pledged the readiness of his committee to intervene in some of challenges facing the board.
Speaking while receiving the committee, the Permanent Secretary who oversees the Ministries for Local Government and that Chieftaincy Affairs, Yahaya Sule, thanked the committee for visit.
Yahaya said that the ministry for LG deals with issues affecting staff of LGCs through their chairmen while that of chieftaincy affairs handles traditional institutions, assuring that they are ready to liaise with the committee for the progress of the ministries.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary Local Government Service Commission, Al-Hassan M. Tahir, appreciated the committee for the visit and promised to work hand in hand with the committee for the progress of the commission.
Likewise, speaking while receiving the committee, the Secretary Local Government Staff Pension Board, Munir Usman, informed them that the commission deals with the retirees.
Munir, said that the board will benefit more from the committee considering the fact that its chairman is a "benefactor" of the board, and thanked the for the visit.
