The House Standing Committee on Commerce, Trades and Industries of the Adamawa State House of Assembly on Monday, pledged to revitalise the ministry so as to boost the revenue profile of the state.
The Chairman of the committee who is also the Member representing Fufore/Gurin constituency, Hon. Barr. Umar Bobbo Ismaila made the pledge during familiarisation visit on the ministry, Jimeta Shopping Complex and Jimeta Ultra Modern Market.
Hon. Barr. Ismaila said that the committee embarked on the visit to familiarise itself with the ministry in order to work together for the betterment of the state, explaining that the ministry is the bedrock of every development.
According to him, the ministry is the source of all industries, businesses and determines the development of every state, saying that it is the ministry that boosts the revenue of the state.
He added that the revenue profile will increase tremendously whenever the ministry, its departments and agencies are made to function effectively, saying that his committee is set to intervene where necessary for the progress of the ministry.
In his comment, the Vice Chairman of the committee and member representing Mubi North constituency, Hon. Paul Samuel, explained that they decided to visit the ministry, departments and agencies to know each other.
Hon. Paul disclosed that the committee is out to work for the progress of the state and not to victimise anybody and appealed to them to corperate with the committee for smooth operation.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Commerce, Trades and Industries, Mrs Rifkatu G. Gwandi, appreciated the committee and promised to support it and the entire assembly.
Mrs. Rifkatu told the delegation that the ministry has departments and 6 parastatals including: Adamawa Investment and Property Development Company, Mubi Burnt Bricks Ltd, Yola Office Stationary and Chalk Industries, Jimeta Ultra Modern Market, Jimeta Shopping Complex and Adamawa State Plaza.
She informed the committee that out of the parastatsls, Stationary and Chalk industries have been closed, while Mubi Burnt Bricks is not functional for a long time, saying that because of its redundancy, individuals have started encroaching into the land belongs to the industry.
She called on the committee to trace and go down to the roots and identify why is it that the industries are not working in order to revitilise them to enhance revenue.
Speaking while receiving the committee, the Commercial Officer Jimeta Shopping Complex, Aliyu Hamman Jidda, identified lack of a befitting office accommodation, permanent parking space, security light, dilapidated nature of offices and shops among others as major challenges facing them.
On her part, the Secretary Jimeta Ultra Modern Market, Joseline Augustine Tizhe, told the committee that the market is in dire of need of security light, as well as lack of enough security personnel.
