GOVT TO PROCURE 500, 000 SEEDLINGS FOR PLANTING..MINISTRY TELLS ADHA C'TTE

Adamawa State Ministry of Environment says it has been mandated by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to procure 500,000 seedlings for planting in order to check deforestation.


This is coming as the Adamawa State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Development, pledged to support measures adopted by the government towards curtailing deforestation.


The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Eng. Cletus Hilkiah Gwotyel, stated this while receiving the Chairman and Members of the House Committee who were in his office on a familiarisation visit.


He informed them that the ministry has been mandated by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to procure 500,000 seedlings for planting so as to check deforestation in the State.


The Permanent Secretary enumerated some of the challenges facing the ministry to include: lack of mobility and low running cost which is affecting the smooth operation of the ministry.


Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Development, Hon. Yohanna Sahabo Jauro, said they were in his office to acquaint themselves with the operation of the ministry.


Hon. Yohanna Sahabo, who represents Mubi South constituency, pledged to support the ministry in addressing deforestation, attributing indiscriminate felling of trees to climate change.


The Lawmaker assured the ministry of their support and cooperation for progress and development, and appealed for a cordial working relationship with the committee to enahce their operation.


Also speaking, a Member of the committee, Mr Paul Samuel, said the committee needs to know the functions and operations of the ministry including the agencies under it.


Hon. Paul Samuel who is the member representing Mubi North constituency, sought for support from the ministry for development of the state.
