A total number of Nine(9) lawyers have stormed the Chief Magistrare Court 4 in Yola, Adamawa state to defend A. A. Lawan Uba, accused of insulting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The defense team was led by F. A. Ogbe, Chief Legal Officer of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria.
The legal practitioners led by Ogbe include; A.S. Mohammed, U B Musa, Anas Na'adati, R. M. Agav, F. T Lekyam, S. Y.Hamid, M.Mahmud and M C Chijoke.
While on the part of the Prosecution, A. M. Iliyasu (Senior State Council 2) appeared along side, D. I.Kulthu(SS2) and Inspector Nanugi Tayeri.
Ogbe, and his team stormed the court presided by Magistrate Aminu Abdulkadir Maiha, on Thursday, and commenced defending Lawan Uba, who is standing trial over alleged defamation of character and several other charges.
Lawan Uba, who has been in prison custody for 20 days, accused Fintiri of betraying him and his supporters and vowed to ensure that Fnitiri does not win election for 2rd term come 2023.
However, he had denied committing the alleged offences when he was arraigned before the court by Inspector Nanugi Tayeri, after which the case was adjourned to the 1st September, 2022 for hearing.
While testifying in court, the Prosection Witness, Abdullahi Yakubu, who is also an Adviser to Governor Fintiri, on Social Media, testified that he had watched the video which trended on the social media.
He narrated that the producer and the defendant defamed the character of Governor Fintiri where used an insultive language against his personality, saying that after watching the video, he lodged a complaint to the appropriate authority.
The witness was cross-examined by the lead counsel to the defendant F. A.Ogbe, after which the matter was adjourned to Monday next week for continuation of hearing.
Meanwhile, the bail application filed before the State High Court presided by Justice Musa Usman is slated for Monday next.
