A 45 year old man identified as Sale Kawu, is receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital Yola, Adamawa State, after a failed attempt to commit suicide.
Sale of Tsohon Tike Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, violently stabbed himself with a knife at his throat and stomach in attempt to take his own life after he allegedly defiled 10 year old boy.
He is presently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Yola, due to the grievious injuries he had inflicted on his own body.
A statement by SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Spokesman of the State Police Command and made available to NEWS PLATFORM, said that the suspect was apprehended on the 1st September, 2022.
He said that the accused who happens to be victim's neighbour, lured him into his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with him through anus.
"The incident was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Mayo Belwa LGA by the victim's father, Akure Usman alongside side other members of community" Nguroje added.
He said that the victim was sighted by neighbours running out of the suspect's room, and that when the neighbours demanded to know the reason why he ran out of the room, he narrated what the suspect did to him.
"Irked by the act of the suspect, the neighbours stormed the residence. But when he saw the mob coming toward his room, he took a knife and stabbed himself at the neck and stomach", Nguroje said.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, S.K Akande, had ordered the Detectives of the Command's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case upon the recovery for prosecution.
He advised the general public to desist from such acts as the command will not hesitate to deal with anyone found wanting.
