Upper Area Court 4 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced 4 young men to 5-7 years in prison for criminal conspiracy, house breaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
The convicts include; Hassan Mohammed of Rumde, Mohammed Ismail, Zira James, and Idris Abdullahi, of Jambutu in Yola North LGA.
Hassan, Ismail and Zira were sentenced to 1 year in prison for criminal conspiracy, 1 year for house breaking and 3 years for theft, while Idris was jailed 7 years for receiving stolen property.
While, the 3 convicts were given option of N150, 000 for the 3 offences each, Idris was sentenced with an option of N150, 000 for the offence of receiving stolen property.
The court presided by Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ulenda, ordered the convicts to pay the sum of N1.846 million as compensation to the nominal complaint.
The convicts were earlier arraigned before the court by the prosecutor, Inspector Danjuma Hamidu, for the offences which contravene sections 60, 345, 276 and 308 of penal code law.
When the content of the First Information Report was read to the convicts as applied by Inspector Danjuma, the convicts pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor told the court that the 3 convicts carted away 54 jerricans of Dozzy engine oil valued 1.846million, on the 17th September, 2022.
According to him, the trio made away with the oil belonging to Micheal Bitrus, of Police Estate Yola South LGA, and that it was Idris Abdullahi of Wauru Jabbe Yola South LGA who dishonestly recieved it.
After the plea of the convicts, the prosecutor, applied that the defendants and now convicts be tried summarily under section section 351 of Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2018.
It was at this juncture the Hon. Ibrahim Ulenda, convicted and sentenced them accordingly.
