The Chief Magistrate Court 4 on Tuesday, granted bail to the Gubernatorial Candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in Adamawa State, A. A. Lawan Uba. NEWS PLATFORM can report.
Lawan, who spent 42 days in prison, was admitted to bail by the presiding judge of the court, Aminu Abdulkadir Maiha, following an oral application by his Counsel, R. M. Agav.
Ruling on the bail application, the judge declared thus: "I hereby admitted the defendant to bail if he provides one prominent politician who resides within the jurisdiction of the court as a realible surety".
He said that the defendant shall also sign a bond to be of good behaviour throughout the trial, explaining that he is admitted to bail in line with the provision of section 36(5), 159 and 163 of the 1999 Constitution as well as ACJL.
A. A. Lawan, through his counsel, R. M. Agav, urged the court to grant bail to his client as according to him, the offences are bailable in nature, and that he will not jump bail and has a realible surety to stand for him.
In his reply, counsel to the prosecution, A.M. Iliyasu, who held no objection, urged the court to use its discretion judiciously and judicially.
