The Jimeta Area Court II sitting in Yola, Adamawa state has ordered the remand of Hon. Hamza Mahmud, Candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples' Party for Uba/Gaya constituency at the State Assembly.

The court presided by Hon. Muhammad Alamin Diya Lamurde, ordered the remand of the politician in prison custody until the 23rd September, 2022 over the allegation of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Hon. Hamza, was arraigned before the court by the Jambutu Divisional Police headquaters for the alleged offences which contravened sections 302 and 312 of the penal code law.

Corpral Ismail Mohammed, the prosecutor stated that the defendant had collected the sum of N12.1million from a man, Abdulrasheed Suleiman of Lamido Sanda road Yola South LGA.

He informed the court that the defendant had collected the money sometimes in December, 2021 to engage in business with a promise to refund it few months later.

He averred that the defendant had refunded the sum of N5.3million with the remaining balance of N6.8million which he refused to pay.

According to him, all effort to make the defendant pay the remaining balance became futile, saying that the prosecution was left with no option other than to drag him to court.
