Barely one year of assumption office, the retiring Chief Justice of Adamawa State, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, has appointed 39 Magistrates as well as recorded several other achievements.
The retiring CJ, has also appointed 180 Registrars as Honourable Members of various Area Courts. NEWS PLATFORM can report.
Aside the appointments, Hon. Justice Nathan, established 6 additional Area Courts, 6 Upper Area Courts and a High Court of Justice no. 2 Mubi as well as significantly improved the internally generated revenue of the judiciary.
The erudite jurist was able to abolish the collection of 10% on judgement sums and estate of the deceased by Area Courts and Magistrate Courts, built and commissioned brand new Area Court, Ngurore in Yola South LGA.
Hon. Justice Nathan, who had served as Acting CJ in 2003, was reappointed as Acting CJ on the 24th September, 2021 by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and later as substantive CJ of the State.
During the period under review, the CJ successfully repealed and replaced the old High Court Civil Procedure Rules of the 1977 with brand new Civil Procedure Rules, 2018.
Likewise, he established 6 Zonal Inspectorate Offices throughout the State, introduced the payment of staff medical bills committee, renovated both new and old High Court complex by filling the chambers and other offices of the judges.
He also brought on board 4 High Court Judges , 2 Customary Court of Appeal Judges and 2 Kadis, procurred 5 Toyota starlet cars for the Zonal Inspectorate Offices, Hilux for the High Court and Sienna bus for Judicial Service Commission.
These and host of other achievements were highlighted by the CJ at a valedictory session organised to mark his retirement from service after clocking 65 years.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, congratulated the outgoing CJ for a career well lived, explaining that they were at the event to pay tribute and acknowledge his many years of fruitful service.
Governor Fintiri described him as a leader whose commitment and doggedness brought commendable reforms in judiciary, saying he will ever be remembered for the reforms he brought to the judiciary.
He told the gathering that one of the stunning characteristics which distinguishes Justice Nathan, is his interpersonal disposition, describing as a personality who respects other peoples' views.
He told him that since he is retiring with remarkable energy and wisdom, he should join him in the other side of service, and that if he is willing to so do, he should join the PDP.
Governor Fintiri used the avenue and approved the title of "Wakili Alkalai" Adamawa bestowed on the CJ by the Lamido Adamawa, Alh. Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo A!iyu Musdafa.
In his valedictory speech, the outgoing Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan, thanked Governor Fintiri, Adamawa Assembly, former and serving judges, JSC, NBA, BoSAN, royal fathers, religious leaders, family members, and well wishers for their support.
He disclosed that the physical infrastructure improvements were carried out from monthly running cost, and attributed it to prudent management of resources allocated to the judiciary.
He said that the challenge he had faced during his tenure was inadequate allocation of funds which according to him has been the major challenge of judiciary from time immemorial to date.
He explained that if the judiciary is properly funded by the government, it shall be able to discharge its responsibilities more effectively which will translate to easy access to justice.
Hon. Justice Nathan, used the opportunity and commended Governor Fintiri for setting up the State Allocation Committee(SAC), a committee for the disbursement of funds to the 3 arms of government.
However, he observed with concern the security challenges threatening the nation and its people, lamenting that there is no part of the of the country that is not under security threat which is causing sleepless nights not only for the leaders but the followers.
In her remarks, the Senior Judge in the State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, applauded Justice Nathan, for administering fair and equitable justice in Adamawa over the years.
Justice Hapsat, also commended him for his selfless service and wished him peaceful time and sound health after his retirement from active service.
In his goodwill message, the Attoney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adamawa State, Barr. A. K. Jingi, felicitated with the CJ, and gave him kudos for the tremendous achievements he had recorded.
Also, in his goodwill message on behalf of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria(BoSAN), Joe -Kyari Gadzama, said that the day marks another significant milestone in the life of CJ.
Joe-Kyari, who also represented HRH, the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Kyari Garbai Elkanemi, added that the uncommon dedication, tenacity, teamwork, intelligence and hard work of the CJ had made him achieved uncommon level in his professional career.
Several dignitaries who spoke at the event including former and serving High Court Judges, Magistrates among others, congratulated him and wished him will well after his retirement from service.
