A 21 year old Housewife, Zulaihat Hassan, of Rumdere in Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa state on Thursday pleaded with Upper Area Court III Yola, to dissolve her 1 year old marriage with her husband, Ahmed Maigari (Baba).
The marriage which was contracted on the 6th April, 2019, lasted only for 2 months as the wife fled from her matrimonial home on the 24th June, 2019, and since then, she has been with her parents.
But to formerly end her marriage with the 35 year old husband, Zulaihat, filed a petition before the court dated 27th July, 2020, and pleaded with the Honourable Court to dissolve the marriage as she does not have interest in it anymore.
Zulaihat begged the court to separate them, as she was no longer interested in the union and the love she had for him had faded.
According to her, she is fed up with the marriage and cannot continue with the respondent as husband and wife, as she lost all love and affection in Baba.
She said that since 24th June, 2020, up to date, she has been in her parents house' and told the court that she is ready to refund him his #30,000 dowry any other expenses less than #30,000.
Zuleihat averred that she is ready to refund the dowry she collected from the respondent, and however sought for an order of the court to formerly put a knife into the 1year old marriage by way of Khuli upon payment of the dowry.
She stated that she was forced to marry him and not out of love, and vowed not to return to his house.
But when the case was mentioned, the husband, Ahmed Maigari, said he still loves his wife, and that he is ready to accept her if she decides to return to her matrimonial home.
He told the court that since he married her, his in-laws have been interfering in their family affairs, saying that they denied him the opportunity to enjoy his wife.
He lamented that his wife fled to her father's house with pregnancy, but her parents went and aborted the pregnancy, saying that nobody forced her to marry him.
According to him, on the first day he met her, she was the one that gave him her phone number, residential address, narrating that they started their courtship and later agreed to tie conjugal knot.
Despite all these, according to him, he is ready to live with her as husband and wife, and that if she refuses, she must refund him #1.5 million marriage expenses for him to formally divorce her.
The court which was presided over by Honourable Umar Isa, adjourned the matter to 19 August, 2020, for continuation of hearing.
Honourable Isa, ordered that marriage guardians of the parties be served with witness summons to appear before the court in the next adjourned date.
