ADAMAWA POLICE ARREST 2 SUSPECTS FOR RAPING 2 MINORS


As rampant cases of rape continue to rise in and around Adamawa, the Detectives of the State Police Command have again recorded another breakthrough by arresting 2 suspects for raping 9 year old and 15 year old girls in Yola.

The suspects, Aminu Abdullahi, 19, and Abubakar Haruna, 32, residents of Yakore in Jambutu, Yola North LGA, were apprehended on the 29th July, 2020 and 30th July, 2020, for sexually assaulting the minors.

The accused, Aminu Abdullahi, met the 9 year old minor at Jambutu Football pitch and took her into an uncompleted building where he raped her.

While on his part, Haruna Abubakar, was said to have forcefully raped his 15 year old victim who happens to be his neighbour by deceiving her to send her on an errand.

A statement by the spokesman of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available NEWS PLATFORM, said that the Detectives attached to the Doubeli Police Station in Jimeta Yola, arrested the suspects after receiving information on their unwholesome activities.

DSP Yahaya Nguroje added that the accused have admitted to had committed the offence, saying that the command is investigating the allegations after which the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.

He said that the victims are now receiving medical attention at a health facility within the state capital, and advised parents and guardians to closely monitor the movement of their wards, so that they do not continue to fall victims of people of questionable characters.

However, the commissioner of police, CP Olugbenga Adeyanju, has commended the general public especially those that are supporting the command in its fight against gender based  violence and sexual assaults against women and children. 

CP Adeyanju, further assured of the command's  commitment to protecting lives and property of the citizens, and called on the public not to relent in reporting any suspicious movement around them .
