In compliance with the Inspector General's directives towards enforcing law and order in the society, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adeyanju, has ordered officers and men of the command to identify, arrest, disarm and prosecute persons bearing prohibited firearms.

CP Adeyanju specifically directed the Divisional Police Officers, HODs and Operational Commanders to clampdown on person(s) or group (s) found to be in possession of the prohibited firearms in and around Adamawa.

The Commissioner of Police in a statement signed by the Image Maker of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Sunday, said that the order is compliance with the IGPs directives.

CP Adeyanju, said that the order has become necessary against the backdrop of the deliberate arming and movement of criminal elements across the state.

In addition, according to him, the directive is targeted at addressing the proliferation and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms in the state which is contrary to the provisions of Chapter F.28 LFN 2004 of the Firearms Act.

He also directed all DPOs to immediately convene an enlightenment meetings of all vigilante groups and Quasi security outfits across the state in order to ensure that their activities are in conformity with the extant laws guiding their establishment and operations.

The police Boss observed with dismay how several civil groups, vigilantes, quasi states and regional security outfits arm themselves with prohibited firearms and weapons in contravention of the provisions of the Firearms Act, saying that if the trend is left unchecked, will pose serious threat in the society.

CP Olugbega Adeyanju, further enjoined citizens to cooperate with the Police in the enforcement in the order which is aimed at ensuring safety of lives and property in the state.
