COURT JAILS 2 FOR STEALING A/C AT SPECIALIST COVID-19 CENTER..SOLD IT N5000



Criminal Area Court I in Yola, Adamawa state has convicted and sentenced 2 young men to 1 year in prison each after they were found guilty for criminal conspiracy, theft and public nuisance..


The court has sentenced the 18 year old Nurudeen Abdulkareem and 19 year old Aliyu Sani of Nasarawo ward, Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa state to 1 year prison each with an option of N50, 000 fine for each.


Hon. Gangs, further ordered the convicts to pay the stolen air conditioner to the government.


The Judge has convicted the defendants on the offences of criminal conspiracy, theft and public nuisance contrary to sections 60, 276 and 157 of the state penal code, 2018.


Earlier, when arraigned before the court by the commissioner of police in the state for trial, both convicts admitted committing the crime as alleged by the Police Boss in the state.


The convicts were said to have armed themselves with working tools on the 5th July, 2021, and made their way into the former Psychiatric unit of the Specialist hospital Yola which was converted to Covid-19 Centre in the wake of the pandemic.


During the operation, the youngmen carted away with a new Air Conditioner which they later sold it to one of their elder brothers now at large at the sum of N5000, only.


Few days later, the convicts went to a spot where they usually meet with friends and spend their time, but a team of vigilantes had while on a routine patrol, saw the convicts in a suspicious manner and apprehended them. 


The team took them to Doubeli police station where they confessed during investigation that they were the criminals who invaded the covid-19 center and stole air conditioner.


 Likewise, the convicts had during arraignment before the court, they pleaded guilty. Thereafter, the prosecutor, Corpral Ismail Mohammed, applied for summary trial of the defendants.


Ruling on the matter on Tuesday, Honourable Umar Gangs, convicted and sentenced them as aforestated.
