COURT CONVICTS 3 "SHILA" BOYS FOR SNATCHING, SELLING PHONE N1,700



Chief Magistrate Court I Admin in Yola, Adamawa state on Monday, convicted and sentenced 3 "Shila" boys to 2 to 3 years inprisonment.


The dreaded "Shila" boys were sent to prison by Chief Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, after they were tried and found guilty of extortion, being in possession of stolen property and receiving stolen property.


The boys, Labaran Mohammed, 18, of Gerio Junction was sentenced to 3 years in prison without option of fine, while an 18 year old Zaradeen Adamu of Jambutu and Solomon Abel (21) of Demsawo were sentenced to 2 years each with an option of 20, 000, fine.


Earlier, the prosecution informed the court during the arraignment that the 1st convict, Labaran, had attacked one Cosmos Ezeugwu, of Demsawo ward in Yola North LGA with a knife on the 16th September,  2021.


Labaran, was said to have attacked his victim with a knife during which he snatached his phone valued N8, 500, and gave it to Zaradeen Adamu, who later sold it to Solomon Abel, at the sum of N1, 700, only contrary to sections 282, 311 and 307 of penal code law.


But the victim having identified the 1st convict, went and reported him at Doubeli police station on the 8th October, 2021, as a result of which he was trailed and apprehended.


It was in the course of investigation that other convicts were arrested and subsequently charged to court where they all pleaded guilty to all the allegations levelled against them.  


During trial, the prosecutor, Seargent Kabiru Abubakar, called a witness and tendered exhibits with a view to corroborating the guilt plea of the 3 defendants after which he applied for  summary trial.


Delevering his ruling on Monday, Chief Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced them as aforementioned.
