A 61 year old Ajiboye Kadmiel of Imbru ward in Numan Local Governmernt Area, Adamawa state has been remanded in a prison custody for allegedly duping 33 applicants the sum of N4.950million.
The Chief Magistrate Court I admin, ordered for the remand of the 61 year old man after he pleaded guilty for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Kadmiel, was dragged before the court by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, for allegedly collecting the sum of N150, 000 from the affected applicants under the pretence of registering them into Passion College of Health and Remedial Science, Numan in Adamawa state.
The CP told the court that the defendant had assured the affected applicants of writing examination after he collected their money, but refused to register them; instead, converted their money to his personal use.
CP Barde, who was represented by Inspector Zakka Musa, informed the court that it was one Jude B. Madaki, of Sabon Pegi Numan LGA and several others that reported the matter to the police on the 2nd September, 2021.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) tendered in court by Inspector Musa, the accused person deceived the complainants and collected their money in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
The FIR revealed that the number of the applicants who became victims stood at 20, while the alleged amount of money collected by the accused person was N3million.
But while the case was being mentioned, so many applicants stormed the court, and said that the number of applicants is 33 and that the money collected amounted to N4.950million.
The applicants said that some of the victims gave their statements at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) very late and while the matter was going on in court, and subsequently joined as parties.
NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the applicants are indigenes of Numan, Demsa, Lamurde, Guyuk, Fufore, Shelleng, Mayo Belwa, Song LGAs, while others are from Taraba state.
When the FIR was read to the accused person, he admitted collecting the money.
Ruling on the application filed by the prosecutor, Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, ordered that the defendant be remanded at a correctional centre and adjourned the case to the 18th October, 2021.
