Angry mob in Bachure community, Yola North Local Government Area on Sunday, set the office of the vigilantes ablaze, following alleged killing of a young man by the vigilantes.
The mob mostly youth of the community who stormed the office of the vigilantes with cutlasses and sticks on Sunday afternoon, sacked the local security men and set their office ablaze.
It was learnt that when the vigilantes saw the angry youth with dangerous weapons, scampered for safety as a result of which they youth gained access to the office; thereby, setting it on fire.
The vigilantes under the leadership of Abdullahi Uba(aka Mallam Abdu) were accused by the mob of killing a 33 year Micheal Amoris, of the community on Friday, last week during patrol.
A source told NEWS PLATFORM on Sunday, that the vigilantes had a clash with some youth during patrol on that fateful day, and that since then, the young man could not be seen until Sunday morning, where his lifeless body was found inside the water.
According to sources, the body had an injury mark suspected that it was inflicted by the local security men during the arrest, insisting that he was allegedly murdered and thrown inside the water by the men.
But other sources who craved for anonymity said that it was not the vigilantes that killed the youngman, adding that the deceased fell into the water while trying to escape arrest when the vigilantes raided a place where youth usually gather and smoke hemp.
Confirming the incident to NEWS PLATFORM, the Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO), DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that there was an attack on the office of the vigilantes this afternoon.
DSP Nguroje, added that the command has since deployed police at the scene of the incident, and that the situation is under control, saying that the operatives have been detailed to investigate further.
