For allegedly stealing and receiving N1.350 million pampers, a Yola Chief Magistrate Court I Admin, has ordered for the remand of 5 accused persons in prison custody.
Those remanded include; Hapsat Abdulazeez, 29, and Maryam Aliyu, 17, house wives, Emeka Okoye, 46, a Yola based business man, Augustine Fimba, 30, a security guard and Warzartida Linus, 18.
Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, ordered their remand pending ruling on their bail application on the 4th November, 2021.
They were arraigned by the state police command for criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving of stolen property which contravened sections 60, 276, 277 and 308 of penal code law, 2018.
Earlier, when the case was called, all the defendants denied stealing and receiving the property as alleged by the prosecution.
But the prosecutor, Seargent Galeon Nimrod, informed the court that a Yola based business man, Aduku Emeka Emmanuel, of Kofare in Yola north LGA, came to Karewa police station on the 2nd October, 2021 and lodged a complaint of theft in his warehouse.
He told the court that the nominal complainant had reported that his property(pampers) valued N1.350 million were carted away and strongly suspected Augustine and Warzartida.
According to him, when the accused persons were interrogated at the police station, they all confessed to the commission of the alleged crime.
But while entering his plea, Augustine confessed that there were very serious incidences of theft in the warehouse more especially of the property in question, but denied participating in the crime.
NEWS PLATFORM was told in court that the women were connected to crime as receivers of the stolen property who whenever they received it from Augustine and Warzartida, they used to sell it to Emeka Okoye.
The case has been adjourned to 4th November, 2021, for ruling on the bail application filed by counsel to all the defendants, M. A. Garison.
