I STOLE A POT, WRAPPER BECAUSE OF HUNGER- LADY TELLS ADAMAWA JDC



A young lady, Ramatu Adamu, who was convicted for theft in a dwelling house was on Thursday discharged by the Adamawa Jail Delivery Committee.


Ramatu was convicted and sentenced to 1 and the half by the Chief Magistrate Court Numan on the 11th August, 2023 for stealing a pot, wrapper and cooler.


She was convicted and sent to Numan Security Custodial Centre where she was serving her jail term.


On her appearance before the Jail Delivery Committee headed by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, the convict said that she had actually committed the offence of which she was convicted.


She narrated that she had visited her sister in Numan where she had committed the offence and attributed it to hunger.


The young lady, who hails from Shelleng LGA, informed the committee that she was a food vendo in Gombe and visited her sister in Numan where she had perpetrated the crime.


She regretted her action and pleaded with the committee to pardon her so as to return back to Gombe to continue with her business.


The committee reviewed her sentenced and discharged her and also warned her not go and commit crime again.


Meanwhile, out her magnanimity, the Chairman of the committee and the Chief Judge presented the sum of N10,000 to her to her to enable her set up a business.
