MINISTRY, ADHA EXPRESS WORRY OVER ILLEGAL STRUCTURES AT JIMETA MODERN MARKET

Adamawa State Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the House of Assembly Committee on Tuesday, inspected the Jimeta Ultra Modern Market as well as the Jimeta Shopping Complex.

The Ministry and the House of Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce, Trades and Industry however expressed worry over continuous errection of illegal structures more especially at the Jimata Ultra Modern Market.

The Commissioner of the ministry, Dr. John Ishaya Dabari, who expressed concern while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after inspection, lamented that the structures have affected the initial plan of the market.

Dr. Dabari hinted that the ministry will liaise with committee, leadership of the market and traders associations and other relevant agencies in order to take necessary action, insisting the structures are causing congestion in the market.

According to him, the ministry and the committee will develop a strategy that will create a conducive environment for business activities to thrive which will also enhance revenue profile of the state.

He explained that they will consider removing the structures that are blocking the gates of the market so that people and vehicles can move in and out freely.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Committee who is the member representing Mubi North constituency, Hon. Paul Samuel, said that the illegal structures have taken over the market which make it difficult for vehicles to come into the market.

Hon. Paul Samuel explained that their function as legislators is to enact laws for good governance, assuring that the House of Assembly will take action that will bring about the progress of the market and boost revenue.

He further assured that the committee will work hand in hand with the ministry and other relevant agencies, adding that the assembly will certainly mandate them on what to do.

The lawmaker said that the committee is ready to act on whatever request the ministry forwarded to it for infrastructural development of the state, and stressed the need to think out of the box in order boost revenue for the services of the state.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Secretary Jimeta Ultra Modern Market, Mrs Joseline T. Augustine identified lack solar powered or electricity as major challenge of the market.

The Secretary appealed to government to consider removing all illegal structures within the market, lamenting that the structures have affected revenue generation for the state.

On their part, the representative of Jimeta Shopping Complex, appealed to the government to change the gates of the market because the existing ones are broken as well as provide solar in the market.
