2 ADHA LAWMAKERS REJECT TRIBUNAL VERDICTS, HEAD TO APPEAL COURT

Two members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly on Friday, rejected the judgements of the National/House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal which declared their elections inconclusive.


The members, Hon. Ibrahim Musa (Italiya) and Hon. Babangida Muhammad Njidda, representing Mayo Belwa and Nasarawo Binyeri constituencies respectively, rejected the judgements and vowed to appeal the decisions.


The tribunal had while delivering separate judgements in petitions filed by Hon. Musa Mahmud Kallamu and Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi, invalidated the elections conducted at 5 polling units in the 2 constituencies.


Delivering its judgements, the tribunal declared elections held at Chokkol Joda, Wuro Aminu and Wuro Mana I units in Mayo Belwa constituency inconclusive, saying that the exercise was conducted not in compliance with the electoral act.


It also declared the 18th March, 2023 elections conducted at Bura Manga unit in Nasarawo Jereng Ward and Sitim Koleni unit in Gangfada ward in Nasarawo Binyeri constituency inconclusive.


The APC lawmakers had while reacting on the judgements, said that they are going to appeal the judgements, saying that they are optimistic that the appellate court will upturn the decisions.


The legislators disclosed that they had received the court’s judgements with mixed feelings but that their team of lawyers will obtain the certified true copy of the judgements, study it and seek redress at the court of appeal.
