Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Adamawa state chapter has commanded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for defying all odds to grant financial autonomy to Local Government Councils(LGCs) in the state.
The financial autonomy has brought reprieve to LG system and administration particularly in the prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements; thereby bringing about effective service delivery at the LGs.
The President of Union in the state, Comrade Hammajumba Gatugel, made the commendation while assessing the performance of the present administration as it hits first 100 days in office.
Comrade Gatugel, said that the members of the union cut across the state are happy with the present administration because of the financial autonomy granted to them, saying that the entitlements of the members of the union are being given to them as at when due, unlike in the past that they will stay for 3 to 4 months without salaries.
According to him, the LGCs have been agitating for financial autonomy not until the assumption of office by Governor Fintiri, who approved for their financial autonomy.
He asserted that with the approval, the LGs are now being given their money in full as released by the Federal Government without any interference as it used to be in the past, explaining that everybody can testify that things have changed for better at the LGCs.
The President noted that the LGs are now in full operation as they have embarked upon the execution of capital projects: building of health centers', construction/rehabilitation rural roads and maintenance of security of security among others.
He tasked the LGCs Transition Committee Chairmen to complete the abandoned projects initiated by the past LG administrations to enable people benefit from it, stating that even if the projects were started by the outgone governments, the credit will go them.
Comrade Hammajumba Gatugel, further appealed the them to render their support to the government of the day to enable it succeed in fulfilling its campaign promises.
