UNEASY CALM AS 24 DISQUALIFIED PDP CONTENDERS IN ADAMAWA AWAIT APPEAL PANEL'S REPORT

Tension is mounting particularly in the camps of the 24 Aspirants for the office of Local Government Council's Chairman in Adamawa State disqualified recently, as they await the report of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Chairmanship Screening Appeal Panel.

The 24 contestants for the chairmanship under the platform of the PDP were recently disqualified by the State PDP Screening Committee headed by Hon. Kwamoti Laori, incumbent member representing Numan, Demsa and Lamurde at the House of Representatives, for inability to meet the requirements laid down by the party for them to run the race.

The affected contenders who could not scale through the screnning exercise include; Buba Salihu Wobbenko (Jada), Jackson Nanyiso (Numan), Nzadumo Tonviwo (Numan), Ibrahim Abdullahi (Shelleng), Buba Adamu Kiri (Shelleng), Kumthi Ezra (Guyuk), Joshua Buba (Guyuk), Esther Yerima Plamuram (Demsa), Zira Tumba Diwe (Michika) and Tumba Habila (Michika) for nonappearance.

Others are; Audu H. Timothy (Mubi North), Luka Philibus (Mubi South), Isa Ahmed Hassan (Mubi South), Kefas Yerima Sajo (Maiha), Mustapha Abubakar (Maiha), Philimon Dalatu Stanley (Hong), Dauda Abdurahman (Gombi),Ahmed Lawan Buba (Gombi), Ahmed Lawan Garba (Girei), Salihu Muhammed (Girei), Sa’ad Abubakar (Yola South), Abubakar Muhammed (Yola South), Mustapha Siddiki (Madali) nonappearance and Usman Muhammed Danyaro (Yola North) for nonappearance.

It could be recalled that the Hon. Kwamoti Laori's Committee had earlier cleared a total of 75 out of 99 Aspirants who obtained the party’s nomination form to contest for the office of Local Government Council’s Chairman across the 21 LGAs in the state.

The Chairman of the committee was reported to have said that the reasons behind disqualifying the 21 aspirants include: lack of genuine certificates, evidence of registration, evidence for their resignation from civil service, proof of payment of party dues, proof of resignation from party leadership positions.

But in order to do justice to its affected members, the leadership of the party went ahead and constituted another committee: PDP Chairmanship Screening Appeal Panel under the Chairmanship of Barr. D. D. Azura.

The Panel was set up primarily to look into the complaints from the affected Aspirants that felt by the sledgehammer of the State Screening Committee; thus, disqualifying them from realising their ambitions at the forthcoming LGCs polls.

The committee which commenced sitting on Monday this week, said it will complete its assignment in 3 days time.

But as of yesterday, there was no report as to whether the committee has completed its assignment as promised or not, let alone submitting its report to the party for consideration and adoption.

But what actually aggravated the already tensed situation in the camps of the affected contenders, was the statement credited to the chairman of the Appeal Panel.

Barr.D. D. Azura, was reported to have told newsmen that they are being very careful not to field candidates that will be successfully challenged by other candidates from other political parties during the elections. This has made some pundits to questioned or doubt the disqualification of the aspirants.

Actually, this statement did not go down well with the Aspirants, as some were left contemplating as to whether they are the ones being referred to by committee and the party in general.

Additionally, this made some of them to conclude that it was a deliberate plan by the party to edge them out, so as to reduce the number of those that will slug it out during the party's primary election.

But while speaking to one of the contestant who confided in the NEWS PLATFORM, said he is not satisfied at all by the reasons adduced by the state committee to his disqualification. He stated that he is a bonafide member of the PDP, who served it for years, and that he does not see reasons why he will be disqualified.

He said that he was able to tender all the necessary requirements laid down for them, appealing to the party to concentrate on creating a level playing ground for them to test their popularity and acceptability.

He told NEWS PLATFORM that he was expecting the outcome of  their sitting with the Appeal Panel yesterday Wednesday, urging the Panel to try as much as possible to submit their report so as to enable them know their fate.

Another Aspirant said that he is patiently waiting for the Appeal Panel to state their position on his issue which according to him, he had since rectified it, expressing optimism that the panel will vindicate him in order to go and canvass for votes.

He said he is confident that the committee will do justice to all of them, because according to him, they are people of proven character, highly respected who could not harm anybody, and called on his fellow contestants to be calmed and not to place their personal interest above the party's interest.
