There is currently a confusion surrounding the custody of four underage suspects linked to "Shila" activities as the Nigeria Correctional Services in Adamawa state rejected to admit them.
The authorities of the Correctional Service insisted that the suspected "Shila" boys are between 13 to 15 and not eligible to be remanded in the facility.
The affected boys include; Mohammed Abubakar, 15, Danlami 13, Abdulwahab Suleiman, 14 and Saidu Abubakar, 15.
Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, had last week ordered for the remand of the accused persons at Yolde Pate correctional facility after they had pleaded guilty for conspiracy, extortion and theft.
But while on inspection of the facility on Friday last week, the Controller of the Correctional Services in the state, Ahmed Abdu Usman, found the boys in the prison, and directed his officers to return the boys to the court so that they will be admitted in appropriate facility.
When the suspects were returned to court and the matter reported on Monday, the Judge said that there is nothing he can do with the boys, saying that releasing them will compound the problem in the society.
Sources in court told NEWS PLATFORM that the courts in the state face challenges for lack of a befitting remand home for juvenile offenders aged 8–16.
The officials that accepted underage in the correctional facility violet the kids fundamental human rights.
