A fearless shop owner, Mohammed Hamman Adama, is lucky to be alive after fighting off 2 dreaded "Shila" boys who attempted to break into his provision shop.
Mohammed, of Sangere Bode in Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa state nearly chop off the left hand of one of the weapons- wielding boys who invaded his provision shop to steal his property.
It happened on the 2nd September, 2021, when the suspects, Umar Sa'ad, 18 and Mohammed Idris, 20, who armed themseves with cutlasses, hammer, cutting pliers and sticks, stormed the provision shop around 2:00am.
Upon their arrival at the shop in the dead of the night, the boys started breaking the door to enable them have access to the shop. But Mohammed whose shop is very close to his residence, heard strange sound at the gate of his shop.
In spite of huge risk trying to take on youngmen who came to carry out robbery, Mohammed who is now being hailed for his bravery, armed himself with a cutlass, came out of his room and confronted the boys.
Sighting the owner, one of the suspect took to his heels and left behind one other who picked his cutlass and decided to come face to face with Mohammed.
During the confrontation/fight, the shop owner mercilessly attacked and inflicted deep cutlass wounds on the left hand of the hoodlum.
While on his part, the suspected "Shila" boy beat Mohammed with stick and assaulted him cutlass in his head and face as a result of which he fell down unconscious.
When the boy saw his victim in coma and blood gushing out, took to his heels thinking that his victim, Mohammed is already dead.
Family members and neighbours who got wind of what was happening, came out and saw Mohammed, in a state coma, and took him to hospital for treatment.
The following morning, neighbours and police detectives traced the blood stains on the ground right from the scene of the crime to house of the suspect at Sangere Bode and effected his arrest and the other suspect.
When arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 Admin in Yola, for criminal conspiracy, breaking open a receptable containing property and voluntarily causing grievious hurt, the suspects pleaded guilty.
After pleading guilty to offence, the prosecutor, ASP Francis Audu, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable the prosecution call a witness to corroborate their plea.
Ruling, Chief Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, adjourned the case to the 23rd September, 2021, for corroboration, and ordered for the remand of the defendants in prison custody till then.
