COURT REMANDS 2 FOR PRINTING FAKE CERTIFICATES OF COE HONG



A Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Friday, remanded two men who specialise in printing fake National Certificate of Education(NCE) of the College of Education (COE) Hong, for students.


The suspects, Amos Daniel, 39 and Jamilu Dahiru, 32, who reside in Hong town, Hong Local Government Area, have been remanded in prison custody after they pleaded guilty to the alleged crime.


Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, ordered the remand of the accused persons who were earlier arraigned before him on the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy and making of false documents contrary to sections 60 and 349 of the state penal code law.


The defendants were apprehended by the team of police attached to Hong divisional headquaters after an anonymous tip on the 1st September, 2021, and charged to court on Friday.


According to First Information Report (FIR) tendered in court by the prosecutor, Sergeant Ahmed Abubakar, the suspects criminally conspired and fraudulently print false statement of results with the letter headed paper of the College of Education Hong to students.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that Amos who is the principal suspect and standing trial as 1st defendant, was a temporary staff of the institution before his dismissal.


It was learnt that the Jamilu, met the principal suspect whom he knew as a staff of the college in 2017, and complained to him about his poor academic performance.


During their meeting, Jamilu informed Amos that he had 17 carry over, and that he was in doubt whether at all he will be able to graduate from the college.


It was on this note that Amos, offered to assist and secure a statement of result for him where he collected his identity card, receipts and the sum of N38, 000, facilitation fees and asked to met him sometimes later and collect his result.


As arranged, Jamilu who met Amos and collected his result,  thought it wise to compare his result with that of his colleagues. But when he compared the results, he discovered that his own was entirely different from that of others.


Pertubed at the outcome of the comparison, Jamilu hurriedly returned to Amos where he expressed his dismay over the genuineness of the result. 


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the principal suspect pleaded with Jamilu, to exercise patience and give him another time to enable him get another result for him, and he did as promised.


Investigation by the police revealed that it was the second result that Jamilu had been using until the time of their arrest and arraignment in court. Jamilu was also nabbed in possession of fake statement of result belonging to another student.   


It was after they entered their plea that the prosecutor, Seargent Ahmed Abubakar, prayed the court to adjourn the matter to enable him bring a witness to corroborate their plea.


Thereafter, the presiding judge, Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, adjourned the case to the 21st September, 2021, for corroboration.
