POLICE MOVE TO END FARMER/HERDER VIOLENCE DURING HARVEST, EXTEND CAMPAIGN TO HONG LGA

As farmers are preparing to commence harvesting of their farm produce, the Adamawa state police command has taken steps towards preventing annual clashes between farmers and herders in some parts of the state.

To this end, the police command led by its CP, A.A Alhaji, on Friday engaged community and religious leaders, senior stakeholders, vigilantes, representatives of grazers and farmers in Hong Local Government Area on the need to embrace the existing peace and strive towards the curtailment of annual bloody clashes.

The CP had during the stakeholder engagement, hammered on the need for herders and farmers to peacefully cohabit and avoid deliberate actions that stir up provocation which result to clashes.

He told the gathering that the police community sensitization/ awareness campaign is a framework aimed at preventing herders/farmers clashes in and around Adamawa.

He saluted community and religious leaders and urged them not to relent in preaching peace and tolerance to their subjects/followers in order to have a peaceful society for all.

He charged all police officers and other law enforcement agents  to act in accordance with the Standard Operational Rules (SOR) of the force and other extant laws guiding their overall conduct.

He warned that any police officer found acting contrary to his oath of office or behaving in a way and manner prejudicial to discipline will be strictly and personally dealt with.

Responding, the Executive Chairman Hong Local Government Council, Hon.James Pukuma, and other stakeholders commended the CP and the delegation, and pledged to key into the initiative in order to contribute their part in preventing all forms of conflict.
