A Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Adamawa state has convicted and sentenced a scavenger, Abubakar Musa to 13 years in prison for receiving stolen cattle.
The court has also jailed a 42 year old Mohammed Garba(aka Danjuma Zainu), a driver and resident of Unguwan Sarki, Pantami, and a 23 year old Umar Abubakar, a tractor operator and resident of Barunde, both indigenes of Akko LGA, Gombe state, 2 years with option of N50, 000 fine and 1 year each without option of fine for cattle theft and criminal conspiracy.
Equally, the court has sentenced 2 butchers and residents of Kasuwan Dare, Gyawana in Lamurde LGA, Adamawa state to 2 years inprisonment with option of N100, 000, fine for receiving stolen property and 6 months in prison each without option of fine for criminal conspiracy.
The 5th convict, Abubakar Musa, of Hayin Gada in Girei LGA, was said to have brought 3 cows from the 1st convict, Mohammed Garba, on the 1st July, 2021, at the sum of N210, 000, while knowing fully well that the cows were stolen.
Mohammed Garba, who informed the court that he has 3 wives and 17 children, along side 3 other convicts at Gyawana in Lamurde LGA, stole 3 cows and sold it to Abubakar Musa.
Likewise, on the 14th August, 2021, near power station in Mayo Belwa LGA, the convicted Gombe Indigenes were found in possession of 3 herds of cattle in a Toyota Sienna bus with tinted glasses with registration number Lagos CP 176 FST which they knew or have reason to believe that the cattle were stolen.
While Ali Adamu and Salaudeen Ibrahim, on the 15th August, 2021, at Gyawana near Union bank were apprehended while receiving stolen cattle.
In his ruling, Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, convicted and sentenced all the defendants accordingly after they were tried and found guilty of the offences.
A. M. Iliyasu(SSCII) and D. I. Kulthu(SSCII) respectively, appeared in court for the complainant.
