In line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Adamawa state House of Assembly Standing Committee on Local Government Affairs has undertaken a familiarisation visit on Ministry, Departments and Agencies under it.
So far, the House Committee headed by the member representing Nassarawo Binyeri constituency, Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi has visited the ministry of LG Affairs, LG Staff Pension Board, LG Service Commission and the Office of the Auditor General of the LGs.
During the familiarisation visit, the House Committee sought for greater partnership with its MDAs for smooth operation and in the interest of the entire state.
Speaking while leading other members of the Committee including Hon. Hamidu Sajo Lekki(Yola North), Simon Isa(Song), Wesley Bathiya(Hong) and Haruna Jelantikiri(Madagali), yesterday, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi (Nassarawo Binyeri), said that the primary reason behind the visit was to enable his Committee know the MDAs under it.
Hon. Nashion told them MDAs that the Members of the Committee were at their respective offices purposely to get acquainted with their operations and the kind of challenges they have been encountering and how best to intervene.
According to him, Adamawa can only move forward if there is understanding between the 2 arms of government and however pledged the readiness of his Committee to work closely with it MDAs in the overall interest of the state.
The Legislator pointed out that the commitment of the honourable house is the enactment of legislations that will bring about governance in the state.
Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi further informed them that his Committee's visit was not aimed at victimising anybody rather seek for partnership on how to move the state forward.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary Ministry for LG Affairs, Mr. Kennedy B. Dauda appreciated the effort of the Committee and pledged to corporate with the Committee for the progress of the state.
The Perm Sec said that the ministry is charged with the responsibility of supervising/monitoring the activities of LGCs so as to ensure that things are done in line with the laid down rules and regulations.
Mr. Kennedy intimated the Committee on some of their operational challenges which include; lack of operational vehicles for their supervisors and a befitting office accommodation.
He disclosed that year in year out they have been receiving approval to that effect but without cash backing for the execution of the projects, saying that the ministry on its part has been doing its best in training and retraining of its staff for effective performance out...
