PATIENTS DECRY EXORBITANT MEDICAL BILLS AT FMC YOLA

Several patients and their relatives at the Federal Medical Center(FMC), Yola in Adamawa State are now at the mercy of God following the exorbitant charges being offered by the hospital on the patients who are seeking for medical services.

Some of the patients and relatives who spoke to The Scope Newspaper expressed concern on the recent increase in the medical charges which according to them will definitely deny ordinary man access to healthcare delivery service being rendered by the FMC.

According to them, the medical charges is unbearable to the citizens and that already the situation is out of reach of the common man in and around the state.

The patients lamented that apart from the cut - throat charges, most of the staff do not take their jobs seriously as there are cases of missing folders which according to them hinder them from consulting their doctors.

They noted with dismay a situation where the FMC has only one pay point which makes them to face a lot difficulties on the process and called on the relevant authorities to come to their rescue.

Some of the patients who spoke under anonymity said that the bed space which used to be #100 is now #1000, screening of blood which was #1700 has skyrocketed to #5900, the cost of folder is now #500 instead of #100.

According to them, charges for delivering women is now #40,000 from #25000, hiring of ambulance of the center to Specialists Hospital in Jimeta cost #10,000, describing the charges as outrageneous  terrible.

In his reaction, the Medical Director of the center, Professor Auwal Abubakar denied the allegations, saying that the hospital renders cheapest services.
