ADHA PLEDGES TO DO JUSTICE TO 2020 BUDGET AS DEFENCE COMMENCES THURSDAY

Lawmakers at the Adamawa state House of Assembly have pledged their readiness to critically scrutinise the 2020 proposed budget estimate presented to them by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the state.

The Honourable Members made the pledge during the 2rd reading of the of whopping sum of #183.3 billion proposed budget estimate of 2020 as presented by the Governor for the services of the state next year.

Already, the proposed budget estimate has since been referred to the House Standing Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation headed by Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa constituency) for defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) which is expected to commence tomorrow.

But speaking during the consideration of the general principles of the bill at the resumed plenary session today, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas pledged the readiness of the house to do justice to the budget.

Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas who presided over the sitting said that this year's budget is in line with the reality on the ground, and that the house will work tirelessly and look at all the areas that concern the needs of the people in the state and address them.

Speaking while moving a motion for the second reading of the bill, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri(Jada Mbulo) told his colleagues that the seriousness and determination of every government is measured by its budget.

Hon. Yettisuri said that budget serves as a pointer to what the government expenditure should be in the fiscal year, adding that it serves as a foundation for any development to be attained by government for its citizens.

He said that all the laudable programmes captured in the budget proposal can only be achieved if the bill is passed and assented to by the executive arm of government and at the same time commence its implementation.

According to him, the second reading and subsequently passage of the bill will enable the citizens in the state to reap the dividends of democracy, and urged his colleagues to support him in reading the bill for the second time.

In her comments, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation and member representing Demsa constituency, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno appealed to her colleagues to make positive contributions on the bill during budget defence.

Hon. Kate reminded the House that the budget is tagged, " Budget of Rebirth " which means budget of hope, explaining that it is articulated in the interest of the citizens in the state.

Baring his mind, Hon. Abubakar Isa(Shelleng Constituency) called on his colleagues to support the second reading of the bill , and commended the mover of the motion.
