Considering the heterogeneous nature of the Adamawa and the need to implement and enforce the principle of fairness and equity in its only University, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has taken steps towards incorporating state character in the overall affairs of the State University Mubi.
This effort by the state legislators will ensure provision of employment opportunities and awarding admissions fairly and equitably to citizens at the nook and crannies of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.
According to the hallowed chamber, a bill penciled down for amendment to that effect will also incorporate the state character in the general administration of the university.
The steps taken by the Honourable Members followed the first reading of a bill reading floated by Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak(Verre constituency) and read at today's resumed plenary session presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas.
If the legislation tagged," a bill for a law to amend the State University Mubi Law Number 10 of 2001, so as to incorporate State Character in the employment, admission and the general administration of the University " finally enacted and assented to by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri will create equal opportunities for all the citizens in the institution.
After the first reading of the bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas directed the Chairman Rules and Business of the House to schedule the bill for second reading at the next legislative day.
Meanwhile, the Lawmakers have unanimously read a bill for a law to amend the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission Law Number 6 of 2014, so as to change the qualification of the Secretary of the Commission.
Likewise, a bill seeking to amend the State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Commission Law Number 7 of 2014, so as to change the qualification of the Secretary of the Commission has scaled through first reading at the Chamber.
The first reading of the bills, followed a motion to that effect by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri(Jada Mbulo constituency) and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Muhammed Mutawali(Girei constituency) respectively.
In the same vein, the Honourable Members have observed a minute silent in respect of late Senator Paul Wampawa, the pioneer Speaker of the hallowed chamber during defunct Gongola state and late Hajiya Fatimah Umaru Badami, mother to the Executive Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who died recently.
