As a deliberate effort to boost agricultural activities in his constituency, the Member representing Leko Koma constituency at the Adamawa state House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Ahmadu has distributed herbicides and farm sprayers to over 500 electorate in his constituency.
The herbicides and sprayers were distributed to Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Elders, Agents, Youth Support Groups, and Women Groups so as to encourage agriculture during this new cropping season.
The kind gesture, according to the Lawmaker, was in line with the Federal and State Governments' decision to promote agriculture, saying his constituency is made up of agrarian communities and the need to support them with the items to boost food production.
Hon. Abdullahi who personally took the delivery of the items from ward to ward right from Koma I, Koma II, Mapeo, Leko and Yeli which comprise Leko Koma constituency, used the opportunity and assessed rural feeder road, culverts as well as Wala River adversely affected by soil erosion.
Speaking while distributing the items to the beneficiaries, Hon. Abdullahi said the distribution of the materials was part of his initiatives aimed at giving back to the society and empower his constituents, particularly in the area of agriculture.
Hon. Abdullahi told them that the primary reason behind the visit was not only to distribute the herbicides, but to enable him see his constituents and also for them to see him.
Hon. Abdullahi who is the Chairman House Standing Committee on Youth and Sports of the House, stated that he decided to come and see them regardless of whether the going is good or bad, saying such a visit is what is expected of a representative and promised to continue in providing people orientated representation.
He explained that he bought the items from his salary and not constituency allowances, saying none of the members is given constituency allowances, saying anytime their allowances are made available, he will take it to them and collectively decide on what to do with it.
According to him, the distribution of the herbicides was as a result of assessment of the needs of his people at this time of rainy season, so as to promote agricultural activities, saying that he was confident that the gesture will assist farmers in his constituency to increase their yields.
He informed them that the primary responsibility of a lawmaker is the enactment of laws and resolutions and not execution of capital projects, and promised to continue to impact on the lives of the people in line with the mandate given to him.
Hon. Abdullahi Ahmadu assured those that were yet to benefit from the gesture not to be discouraged, saying that he would soon roll out similar empowerment programme for them.
In their separate remarks, the APC Chairmen of Koma I, Koma II, Mapeo, Leko and Yeli Wards, Yelwa Ba Shehu, Martin Geno, Richard Samari, Alhaji Bobboi Umaru, and Sidiki Gangjen applauded the member for providing the items.
The Chairmen said that electorate in the constituency had voted for a leader who has the love of his people at heart, and described him as tasted and trusted leader, and promised to continue to support him so as to enable him succeed.
Also speaking, the Administrator Koma Vomni State Development, Hon. Ezekiel Baferi thanked the member for reaching out to his people with the items at this farming season, saying that the items will go along way in promoting agriculture.
Hon. Baferi charged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the items given to them for the purpose intended, and appealed to those that were yet to benefit not to envy those that benefited as plans are under way to reach out to them, and pleaded with the legislator to facilitate the employment of youth and empowerment of women.
Also speaking while receiving the member and his entourage at their respective palaces, the District Heads of Koma I, Mapeo, Leko and Kojoli, Alhaji Santurakin Ganye, Alhaji Abdulmumini Samviri, Alhaji Adamu Hayatu and Alhaji Muhammadu Kabiru thanked member for helping farmers with the items, and prayed God to continue guide, protect and give him more wisdom so as to lead well.
Several other beneficiaries who spoke during the event, appreciated the member and said that the items will help in boosting food production in the entire constituency.
Hon. Abdullahi Ahmadu has also commiserated with Leader of Local Hunters, Koma, Hamandikko Na'amu, over the death of his daughter.
