OBSERVE SAFETY GUIDELINES TO END COVID-19, STATE MPS URGE PUBLIC


Honourable Members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly have urged their constituents to strictly adhere to the safety guidelines provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) so as to end Covid -19 pandemic in the state.

If the general public, according to the Members, will observe the guidelines and obey executive and lockdown orders, the disease will not spread further in the state, and however made a passionate appeal to the citizens to take responsibilities in order to end the disease.

The Legislator gave kudos to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for being proactive in combating the dreaded pandemic, saying that it is high time for every citizen to play his or her role towards containing the killer disease.

The call by Honourable Members followed a debate on the matter of urgent public importance brought before the resumed plenary session by the Member representing Yola North Constituency, Hon. Hamidu Sajo Lekki.

Earlier, Hon. Lekki who is the Chairman House Standing Committee on Health and Human Services as well as Chairman House of Assembly Adhoc Committee on Covid-19 said that it has become necessary for him to commend Fintiri and the State Containment Committee for adopting the safety guidelines given by the World Health Organisation and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control.

Hon. Lekki told his colleagues that he was happy because at the moment, the state has not recorded any death in connection with Covid-19, saying that out of over 20 cases recorded so far, 5 patients had been discharged.

The Lawmaker noted that the recovery of the patients is a positive development and therefore commended the effort of the state government and the committee saddled with the responsibility tackling the pandemic.

In his contribution, the Leader of the Ad hoc Committee and former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijiyanwa(Yola South) applauded the Government, the Committee, Health Workers, organisations and individuals for their contributions toward fighting the disease.

Rt. Hon. Mijiyanwa advised the public to make use of safety guidelines provided by experts which include social distancing, regular hand washing, use of face marks, personal hygiene among others to save lives.

He advised that anybody who does not have something very important to do outside should stay at home for his personal safety and that of others, and appreciated the general public for obeying the lockdown order imposed in the state.

Other members who contributed on the motion including Hon. Alhassan Hammajoda(Ganye), Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa), Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi(Nassawo Binyeri) and Hon. Abubakar Isa (Shelleng)  advised the government not to relax in its efforts to fighting the disease.

Speaking while presiding over today's sitting, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas appealed to citizens that came in contact with the patients to isolate themselves or go to hospital for testing, calling on them to abide by the orders to end the disease.
