POLICE BEGIN ENFORCEMENT OF FG's CURFEW AS VIRUS CASES REACH 12 IN ADAMAWA


Following the declaration of nation wide curfew by President Muhammad Buhari as part measures towards checkmating further spread of the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic, the Adamawa state Police Command in conjunction with other sister agencies have commenced the enforcement of the order.

The enforcement of 8:00pm to 6:00am curfew which started from Monday 4th May, 2020, is expected to be in effect on daily basis until further notice.

This is coming as the cases of covid -19 in Adamawa state had Yesterday Monday risen from 6 to 12 with Mubi emerging the epicenter of the outbreak in the state.

President Buhari had in a nationwide broadcast announced new measures including a nationwide 8pm-to-6am curfew, compulsory wearing of facemasks and a ban on "non-essential" travel between different regions as part of effort to mitigate the spread of the disease.

To enforce the order, the state police command in a statement by its Image maker, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, which was made available to newsmen Monday, said that the Command in collaboration with other security agencies have commenced full enforcement of the directives as from Monday 4th May, 2020.

To this end, the Command has warned the general public not to breach the order, and further advised them to strictly adhere to the restriction order until further notice.

The statement explained that the curfew is effective  from 8:00pm to 6:00am daily across the state, saying all movements are prohibited during this period except for those on essential services.

It added that there is a ban of non essential movement in and out of the state, and that wearing of face mask is now compulsory for all the citizens.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adeyanju, according to the statement, appealed to the general public to respectfully comply with such orders as taskforce team which comprises police and other security agencies have been deployed to enforce the directives.

While urging the public to adhere strictly to the directives, the command however warned officers and men deployed for the exercise to exhibit high level of professionalism, operate within the context of the law and respect human rights.

It reiterated that the inter-state movements remain prohibited, and that all  borders linking Adamawa State had been fortified by security agencies to prevent unnecessary movements into the State and possibly apprehend violators.

All taxi drivers and tricycles operators are  to carry not more than two to three passengers ,while buses are to take half of its passengers in compliance with social distancing order.

It asured the citizens of its commitment to protecting lives and properties, calling on them to stay at home and remain safe.
