Adamawa State House of Assembly Member representing Jada Mbulo constituency and several other stakeholders in the area have raised alarmed that 4 major bridges linking their areas with the rest of the world are on the verge of total collapse.
According to the stakeholders, if the bridges collapse will spell doom for their communities as they rely on them to convey their rich agricultural produce to Ganye and Toungo on the southern part, Jalingo on the eastern part and Jada, Mayo Belwa and Yola the Adamawa state capital.
The effected bridges include; Jada Mbulo- Yebbi bridge, Mararaba Danaba - Yebbi mini bridge, Yebbi -Ganye bridge and Yebbi -Ganye mini bridge.
A visit to the area revealed that the 4 bridges which connect several communities had developed problem since last year due to heavy downpour which caused flooding that washed away roads, bridges, and culverts.
It was learnt that this week's torrential rain recorded in the area compounded the problem; thereby bringing all the bridges on the verge of collapse, and at the moment there is possibility that if such rainfall is recorded again will cut off all the bridges completely.
The bridges are currently begging for immediate, better and stronger action to construct/fortify them against heavy rains so as to avoid total collapse that will require government expending huge resources towards reconstructing them.
Another major challenge of Mbulo community in particular is the blockage of a drainage or water channels constructed to divert water coming from the mountains which used to cause flooding in the area.
What the drainage needed at the moment is dredging it to make water flow into its natural channel so as to avoid over flooding which may affect households during rainy season.
It is in the light of the foregoing that the member representing Jada Mbulo constituency at the House of Assembly, Hon. Hamman Tukur Yettisuri led engineers from the state ministry of works for an on the spot assessment of the bridges.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after assessing the bridges, Hon. Yettisuri expressed worry over the nature of the bridges, saying that the collapse of the bridges will not only affect his teeming constituents, but Toungo, Ganye, Mayo Belwa and entire Jada, and some parts of Taraba and Adamawa.
Hon. Yetisuri who is the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly appealed to the state to swing into action immediately, because according to him his people do not have alternative, explaining that the road is very crucial to his constituency and state and at large due its economic benefit.
He added that the road is the live wire of his constituents and stressed the need for government's intervention, saying rectifying the damaged bridges will ease the movement of goods and services from the hinterlands.
The Lawmaker posited that he is aware of the challenges confronting the government which ranges from high debt profile inherited, combating the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic, and further pleaded with his electorate to exercise patience as they await government's intervention on the problem.
He made a passionate appeal to his supporters to intensify prayers so as to enable the government of the day succeed in delivering on its campaign promises.
