ADAMAWA NEW POLICE BOSS GIVES ACCOUNT OF STEWARDSHIP IN ONE WEEK


Barely one week of assumption of office, the newly posted Commissioner of Police to Adamawa state command, Olugbenga Adeyanju, has recorded major breakthrough within a week of assumption of office with the arrest of 23 suspected kidnappers.

CP Adeyanju was recently deployed to the state by the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed  A Adamu, and formerly took over the command from the outgoing CP, Audu A Madaki on Friday 1st May, 2020.

According to command, the remarkable achievements recorded followed the continued support the command has been receiving from the government and the good people of the state.

The 23 suspected kidnappers, according to the new CP, were apprehended in Gombi, Hong and Ganye Local Government Areas in the last one week, and recovered 3 AK 47 riffles, 1 fabricated Small Machine Gun, 2 single barrel guns with 468 rounds of live ammunitions and 25 cartridges.

While the suspects nabbed in Gombi, according to the command, had confessed to be the ones that abducted one Ardo Kulda and Tela Bala and collected the whopping #4.5million as ransom, the suspects arrested in Hong confessed to had threatened to kidnap 3 people or pay #3million ransom.

Speaking while parading the suspects at the police headquarters today, the new Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju assured that the suspects will be diligently prosecuted on completion of investigation, saying that the command will not relent until every member of the gang still at large is arrested and brought to book.

Meanwhile, the CP has disclosed that his coming to Adamawa from Abuja is solely to ensure that the ultimate vision of the Nigeria Police Force to make the state in particular a safer and more secured environment for everyone to live.

In his inaugural press briefing held at the headquarters of the command today, the CP said that his intention is to police the state in tandem with the creed of the IGP based on international core values of policing with integrity, as well as ensuring that the rule of law prevails in their actions and activities.

He stated that he will ensure respect of diversity, display of courage, show of compassion and demonstration of professionalism, adding that he will strive towards ensuring the command operate within the principles of democratic policing, shun corruption and operate within the context of law.

He added that the Command will carry out massive deployment geared towards having increased presence of police in the nook and crannies so as to serve as preventive measures to deter criminals on one hand and provide assurance to good people of the state.

The Police Boss pointed out that the command will synergise/cooperate with state and non state actors to form a common formidable frontier against crime and criminality, explaining that it cannot achieve much without the support of the community through information sharing, logistics support, adherence to the rule of law.

Some of the command's strategies in enhancing community policing, according to him, is the intensification of both vehicular and foot patrols, outreach in schools, religious centers, market squares and motor parks.

He asserted that that the command will encourage constructive engagements between local communities and cattle herders so as to foster mutual understanding and nip in the bud any possible clash between them.

Under his watch, he told newsmen that corruption in all its ramifications on the part of their officers and men will not be tolerated and will be fought with seriousness, saying that no infraction from any police officer will go unpunished.

CP Olugbenga Adeyanju expressed optimism that Adamawa will witness improved police service delivery that will lead to the reduction of crime wave in the state to the appreciable level.
