COVID-19: ALGON UNDERTAKES ENLIGHTENMENT CAMPAIGN IN SUPPORT OF FINTIRI

Hon. Jingi Rufai, ALGON Chairman Adamawa State

As the dreaded covid-19 pandemic continues to spread in some parts of the state with recent outbreak in Yola South, Hong and Mubi North Local Government Areas, the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON), Adamawa state chapter has undertaken public enlightenment campaign on the dangers of the global pandemic.

The public enlightenment campaign, according to the association, is to support Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in waging war against covid-19 through creation of massive awareness on the dangers of the disease amongst the people at the grassroots.

While observing with concern the recent spread of the pandemic in some LGAs, the association stated  that the enlightenment campaign became necessary following recent discovery of how the transmission is now at the community level; hence the adoption of public awareness mechanisms through Community and Religious Leaders as well as House-to-House campaign.

A statement by the Chairman of the association, Hon. Jingi Rufai which was made available to newsmen in Yola, disclosed that all the LGCs Chairmen across the state had set the ball rolling by constituting Task Force in each council to support Governor Fintiri in his effort to ridding the state free from the killer Virus.

Hon. Jingi pointed out that their campaign also entails the enforcement of safety measures like compulsory use of facemasks, use of hand sanitizers, observing social distancing as well as avoiding large gathering be it naming ceremonies, burials or religious gatherings being practiced at rural areas.

Hon. Jingi who is also the Executive Chairman Mubi South LGC, said that the Governor Fintiri should not be left alone in this battle; hence their collective decision as LGCs' Chairmen to throw their weight behind him and his government towards ending the pandemic.

The ALGON called for support and cooperation of the rural populace so as to contain further spread of the disease, saying with their support, the state stands a better chance of winning the war.
