As the screening/authentication of retirees progress, the Chairman House Standing Committee of Public Service and Electoral Matters and Member Representing Guyuk constituency, Hon. Adwawa Donglock has declared that the his committee has so far uncovered 800 ghost pensioners on the payroll of the state government.
The state government has since commenced the screening and authentication of pensioners with the intent to regularise prompt payment of gratuities to retirees from the civil service of the state.
But speaking during an assessment visit at the Mahmudu Ribadu Square Tuesday, the Chairman of the Committee who was accompanied by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, said his committee is expected to come up with more revelation that will determine the actual number of pensioners so as to be paid.
Hon Donglock disclosed that some of the ghost pensioners died many years ago, but their names still feature on the payroll for both monthly pension and gratuity, insisting that the Committee will impress on the board to ensure consistency in the exercise.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, described the exercise as impressive, saying those that are saddled with the responsibility are doing what is expected of them.
Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas explained that the only challenge is lack of enough manpower and pledged the readiness of the House towards impressing the executive arm to increase manpower so as to make the exercise move very fast.
He observed that the government will save a lot after the exercise, adding that it is over 10 years now the screening has not been carried out which according to him, it is not supposed to be so.
