An Upper Area Court III sitting in Yola, the Adamawa state capital has on Monday dissolved a year old union between Sa'adatu Yusuf and Buba Ibrahim.
The court presided by Honourable Umar Isa also ordered the complainant to pay the sum of #20,000 to the defendant so as to enable him marry another wife.
Earlier, the petitioner and resident of Kwapre Village, in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa state asked the court to dissolve their marriage.
She said the marriage contracted sometimes in 1999, between her and her husband, Buba Ibrahim was blessed with 4 children whom she has been taking care of since 2015.
Sa'adatu informed the court that her husband paid the sum of #2000 only as dowry as at 1999 and that she is ready to refund the money as "khuli" so as to free herself from the marital bond.
She said that she has lost all love towards her husband and because of her fear of transgression, the marriage should be dissolved, as she is willing and ready to refund the dowry.
But the presiding judge who went ahead and dissolved the marriage, was surprised when he heard that the dowry was only #2000.
He said that the minimum dowry currently is #18,500, hence the decision of the court ordering the woman to pay the money to the husband to enable the man take another wife.
