ADHA TAKES STEPS ON PENDING BILLS, CONSTITUTES C'TEE

Following the dissolution of the House Standing Committees of the Adamawa state House of Assembly, the speaker of the House has constituted Adhoc Committee to revisit bills that are pending at various stages for possible passage.

To achieve this, the house under the leadership of Rt. Hon. AminuI ya Abbas had on Wednesday set up the Committee with a mandate to look at all the bills floated by the members that could not see the light of the day.

The committee headed by the member representing Nassarawo Binyeri constituency, Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi will look at the outstanding bills taking into cognisance its merits and demerits and recommends steps to be adopted by the Honourable members to that effect.

The move by the Honourable speaker is to save some of the people oriented bills that are laying waste bearing in mind that the house at the moment is without single standing committee that will be scrutinising the bills that hanging at various stages.

Of utmost importance, the role of Hon. Nashon committee will ease work for the house and the new set of committees that will be constituted by the house.

It could be recalled that the hallowed chamber had while giving account of its stewardship in 6 months said that the house had passed 4 bills and 23 resolutions for good governance in the state.

According to house through its speaker, 2 out of the 4 bills enacted by the Honourable House were  assented to by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, but could not say whether the 23 resolutions passed were implemented or not.

Checks by NEWS PLATFORM revealed that the hallowed chamber of 25 Members and inaugurated in June, 2019, sponsored no fewer than 9 different bills: 3 by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, 1 by the esrtwhile Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa (Yola South), 2 by the Majority Leader, Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri(Jada Mbulo), 1 by Hon. Joseph Ayuba Kwada( Michika), 1 by Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa) and 1 by Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi (Nasarawo Binyeri.

Some of the outstanding bills that will be revisited include a bill for a Law to regulate the minimum standards for health care facilities, a Bill for a Law to provide for the Establishment and Functions of Adamawa State Agency for Humanitarian and Developmental Affairs, a Bill for a Law to Regulate the Practice of the Estate Agency in the State and a Bill for a Law to Amend Teachers' Retirement Years Law number 17 of 2018, so as to Restrict the Application of its Provisions to Science and English Language Teachers only.

The membership of the committee include; Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi(Nassarawo Binyeri) chairman, Hon. Simon Isa(Song), Hon. Shuaibu Babas(Fufore Gurin), Hon. Is a Yahaya (Maiha), Hon. Abubakar Isa(Shelleg) and Hon. Adawawa Donglock(Guyuk).

But the speaker had while presiding over the sitting, announced the composition of the committee and wished them well in their assignment.
