YOLA CRIMINAL COURT REMANDS 20 YEAR OLD AHMADU FOR STEALING ALCOHOL

For the offence of stealing assorted alcohol, the Yola Criminal Area Court I in Adamawa State has on Wednesday remanded a 20 year old Ahmadu Umar of Rhumde Ward in Jimeta.

The Criminal Court further ordered for the arrest of Idi and Aliyu of bye pass alleged to have bought the stolen items from the suspect.

The suspect was arraigned before Honourable Umar Gangs led Criminal Area Court today on the offence of theft contrary to section 276 of the Adamawa State Penal Code Law.

But when the charge was read to the suspect, he immediately pleaded guilty for the offence and however prayed for leniency while attributing poverty to the cause of his action.

Earlier, the prosecution informed the court that one Charles Madu of NEPA and one Joseph Okoronkwo of Taraba street in Jimeta jointly reported to the police that on 10th January, 2020, and 21st February, 2020, the suspect broke into their shops and made away with 10 items valued at #563,400.

According to the prosecution, some of the items carted away include; Captain Jack drink, 1 cartoon of Bullet Energy drink, 2 cartoon of Sachet Imperial drink, single flex cables, 16 mm service, coils flex cables among several other items. 

But the court presided by Honourable Gangs ordered that the suspect be remanded in Jimeta prison custody, and those suspected to have bought the items be brought to court for prosecution.

Speaking to NEWS PLATFORM shortly after the court proceedings, the accused said it was poverty that forced him into the unlawful action and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

He explained that he broke into the plaintiff's shops located at NEPA in the wee hours of Friday and stole assorted alcohol including one latest brand known as "One Man Squad" and other valuables which he later sold to cater for his needs.
