Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, former Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly
Erstwhile Speaker of the Adamawa Stare House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa has reiterated his commitment towards the provision of people oriented representation through enactment of laws and resolutions.
According the former Speaker, meeting the yearnings and aspirations of his constituents will continue to remain his topmost priority and will strive towards achieving it.
Hon. Mijinyawa who was speaking at a one day townhall meeting organised by International Republican Institute(IRI) which he supported and held at Lamido Zubairu hall Yola bye-pass during the week, reassured his constituents of even representation.
The meeting attracted his electorate across 10 wards during which the constituents presented the needs of their various communities and demanded his intervention towards addressing them.
The former Speaker who represents Yola constituency at the Assembly said that the reason behind organising the meeting was to create a forum that will enable him to personally thank his voters for their support during and after his re-election.
Hon. Mijinyawa told them that they organised the meeting so as to serve as an avenue where he will get first hand information on the impact of his representation and challenges they have been facing so that together they can discuss ways of addressing them.
While enumerating some of the achievements recorded during his first tenure in office, Hon. Mijinyawa said he had put education as number one priority, saying over 10,000 students from secondary and tertiary institutions benefited from scholarship scheme, constructed and renovated classrooms in various schools across his constituency.
He added that upon his assumption of office, he embarked on the provision of water supply: small scheme water supply, drilling and repairing of boreholes, hand dug wells in hard to reach areas, provision of health care facilities, electrification of some communities, provision of inputs to farmers, youth and women empowerment among other employment opportunities, and lobbied for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of both urban and rural roads in his constituency.
After the submissions of Needs Assessment by the participants, the Speaker who took note of all the needs, assured of his determination to doing everything possible towards meeting them.
In their separate submissions, the representatives of 10 wards outlined some of the areas of intervention which includes, provision of portable water supply, health care facilities, educational infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, evacuation of drainages and refuge dumps among others.
They commended the lawmaker for the achievements he recorded during his first tenure in office, and urged him to redouble his effort towards providing more developmental Projects to the people of his constituency.
The town hall meeting was attended by the Deputy Minority Whip of the House Alhaji Shaibu Dan Musa of Mubi North Constituency and the State Coordinator of the International Republican Institute Mrs Charity Anan
