It was indeed a colourful turbaning ceremony of Comrade Rodney Nathan, Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Adamawa state as "Ngra Batta" and Comrade Jeremiah Ngyakwar, Chairman Think Tank Committee of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) as "Ndukuso Batta" by his Royal Majesty, the Hama Batta, Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke.
The historic event also saw the presentation of Honorary Royal Awards of "Agricultural Investment" and " Peace Building" to a Business Mogul, Abdullahi Bashir Haske (Chiroma Ganye) and Chief Yedisihno Ismaila Murey( Kpalagbe Bachama) respectively.
The pomp and pageantry that trailed the coronation of the illustrious sons of the land who have distinguished themselves in their calling and the 10th Anniversary Celebration of His Royal Majesty, the Hama Batta was simply amazing and historic to say the least.
Held at the palace of the Hama Batta in Demsa Local Government Area in Adamawa State Saturday, the event attracted dignitaries including the Executive Governor of the state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, His Deputy, Chief Crowther Seth, the Speaker of the state, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo, former and present members of the National Assembly, National President and State Chairmen of NUT, SGF, SSG, State Head of Service, Members of the State Executive Council, Chairmen of LGCs and First Class Chiefs and host of others.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, congratulated the Hama Batta for clocking 10 years on the throne, commending him for bringing peace, love, security and development to his kingdom.
Governor Fintiri tasked those turbaned to see their positions in the kingdom not as opportunity but a challenge, and charged them to bring their wealth of experience gathered over the years to bear for the benefit of the inhabitants of the kingdom.
He further called on them to continue to add value to the lives of the people most especially in the area of security, education and human development, appealing to all and sundry to take the responsibility of the out of school children so as to avert Book Haram in the future.
In his remarks, the Hama Batta, Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke, said that the chiefdom has recorded enormous achievements within the last 10 years, saying it has changed the phase of the palace to befit the status of a first class monarch.
He congratulated those conferred with the chieftaincy titles and those who were given special recognition for their outstanding contributions towards the development of the Batta Chiefdom, calling on all title holders to put their hands on deck so as to rebuild the chiefdom and progressively move it to enviable height.
Fielding questions from newsmen after the event, the National President of NUT, Dr. Nasir Idriss, said that he was highly impressed with the turbaning ceremony of Comrade Rodney Nathan, saying that his title is not given to a lazy person, but hardworking, tasted and trusted personality like Rodney.
Dr. Idriss explained that his yearnings and aspirations as the President of the NUT is to see that his members are being identified and honoured by their own communities, describing Comrade Rodney as his confidant.
Baring his mind, the Chairman of the NUT and celebrant, Comrade Rodney Nathan thanked God and all the people that celebrated with him, saying that his experience during the event has changed his thinking on how to live with people.
Comrade Rodney Nathan told newsmen that he knew that people will come but did not expect the crowd he saw, adding that the people he saw has boosted his relationship with the people and appreciated them for rallying round him at this unique moment of his life.
