PRIVATE COMPANY, ADAMAWA COMMUNITY SIGN MoU ON SUGAR PLANTATION


In response to favourable investment climate created by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration in the State, Legacy Sugar Company Limited has indicated its interest towards establishing Integrated and Mechanised Sugar Cane Plantation in Mayo Ine Community in Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

To this end, the Legacy Company had Yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Community for the establishment of state of art Company that will produce raw Sugar cane on 15,000 hectares of land that will be crushed and refined into high quality white sugar for consumption.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Company by it Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Musa, Director Policy Planning, National Sugar Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Babangida Damare, Executive Chairmen of Fufore and Mayo Belwa Local Government Councils, the District Head of Mayo Ine, Alhaji Lawal Muktar Mustapha and 10 Village Heads in Mayo Ine District, Fufore and Mbilla District in Mayo Belwa as well as other witnesses.

If finally set up, the Sugar Company is expected to generate jobs and bring about a complete economic turn around most especially for the benefiting communities, generate 26 megawatts of electricity, produce ethanol fuel for usage in the state, organic fertilizer, bagasse and animal feed with high nutritional value.

As part of its corporate social responsibility for Mayo Ine Community and environs, the Company is planning to establish healthcare facilities, primary and secondary schools, vocational training centers with modern equipment for the benefit of the communities and engage indigenes as farmers with some as workers in the factory.

According to its leadership, the Company is going to come with the investment of the whooping #40 billion which will go along way in developing the economy of the host communities as well as the state.

Speaking while signing the MoU at the palace of the District Head of Mayo Ine today, the Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Sugar Company Limited, Alhaji Abubakar Musa, said that the Company is setting up Sugar Plantation that will refine Sugar Cane into Sugar, create employment opportunities for the citizens, generate 26 megawatts of electricity, produce ethanol, bagasse and create wealth for the state.

The CEO told that gathering that the mission behind it is to derive the agenda of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration of rural infrastructure, economic development, wealth creation and providing employment opportunities for the teeming electorate in the state.

Alh Musa disclosed that the economic benefits of Sugar Cane is more than any agricultural produce depending on the experts that will process it, assuring that Mayo Ine Community stands to benefit from the Company more than any Community in the state.

He informed them that very soon Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Central Bank Governor and other high profile personalities and experts will be in the Community for foundation laying ceremony after which the Company will kick start its activities, and called for support and cooperation so as to enable the Company succeeds.

In his remarks, the Director Policy Planning of the National Sugar Council of Nigeria, Alh Babangida Damare stated that the Council is delighted that the Company is coming on board with a clear cut mission, saying that the decision by Company to establish Sugar Cane Plantation is a welcome development for the state.

The Director explained that Nigeria is consuming over 1.7million metric tonnes of sugar currently and that the Country is producing less than 2 percent of it, saying that Company will contribute enormously in bridging the gap between demand and supply of Sugar.

He commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and Lamido Adamawa, Alh. Dr. Muhammad Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa for being solidly behind the establishment of the Company, adding that the economic benefits of the Company to the state cannot be overemphasised.

Also speaking on behalf of Fufore and Mayo Belwa LGCs, the Executive Chairman Mayo Belwa LGC, Mr Gershon Kasuwa said that the citizens of both the LGAs are happy with the plan, and pledged the readiness of the LGCs to providing needed support for taking off and for the growth of the Company.

Baring his mind, the District Head of Mayo Ine, Alh. Lawal Muktar Mustapha appreciated the leadership of the Company for its decision to establishing Company in his domain, and pledged 100 percent support for it success.

Also speaking on behalf of the Village Heads, Ibrahim Jauro stressed the need for peace between the Company and host Communities, and urged their subjects not to constitute a threat to the Company and its facilities.
